    Plastic bottle question

I don't see how oxygenation is possible with a container that is under a positive pressure such as a bottle of beer. To me that defies logic. Can someone please explain how that is possible? I've been using 2 liter plastic soda bottles for over three years and have never encountered this. Have...

What's your occupation: Engineer or Non-Engineer

I'm a Special Commodities Relocation Engineer (truck driver) haha. No, not an engineer but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

    Premier malt extract

Good to know about the Pig, jcobbs. I also deliver to the Foodland in Priceville. I'm usually there Friday afternoon about 2 pm. Come on by and we'll compare notes. Just look out back for the big truck at the dock.

    Premier malt extract

Frogger the Food Giants in B'ham have it. I deliver to them. There's one in Roebuck and one out in Moody. Also Aporto Madrid. Bessemer and Hueytown. You won't find it in Piggly Wiggly or Winn Dixie. Just the Mom and Pop stores.

    My Better Bottle shrunk!

That's what I was wondering. My BBs don't get the wort until it's at pitching temp. You can cool your wort in the sink with cold water that you keep changing out as it warms and then a final ice bath that will bring it down to pitching temp. THEN put it in the BB. Takes about a half hour to 45 mins.

I hate my bottling bucket spigot....

I, too, have never had an issue with my spigot. And after three years of using at least every 2 months, I have never taken it apart and cleaned it either. I rinse the bucket after bottling very well, run clean, hot water through the spigot and then when I get ready to bottle again, the bucket...

    Star-San vs. Iodophor - FIGHT!

I bought a 34 oz. bottle of StarSan 3 years ago when I started brewing and I still have 26 ozs. left. I have a bucket dedicated to StarSan and keep about 2 gallons stored for about three months. When I go to sanitize things, the buckets and carboys get spritzed with a sprayer and swirled...

    Carbonating with soda bottles

I've been using the same 2 liter pop bottles for going on three years now. They work great. Same caps too. I have 4 of them with carbonator caps on them so as soon as I bottle the 4 of them, I will force carb them with a paintball cannister and shake like crazy...carb again.....shake....carb...

    Never Use Pbw Again!!

I've always used "Sun" cleaner. It's Oxyclean without the bleach crystals and it works great in my plastic BB fermenters and buckets. No scrubbing ever, just a soak for a couple of hours and it's good to go.

    Premier malt extract

Don't know. I've never kegged. It would be much easier, I'm sure. Shouldn't affect the taste at all.

    Man, I HATE Bottling....

I agree totally about the streamlining. I get out 10 2-liter bottles that have already been rinsed after emptying, spray two or three squirts of StarSan in each one, swirl around for a second or two, let sit for about 30 seconds, dump out the liquid, and bottle immediately. 10 minutes tops!

    Premier malt extract

If you brew it according to the directions or to whatever brewing knowledge you have...I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the results. It's not very hoppy and slightly malty, but that's how I like my beer. Let ferment for 2 weeks and then bottle. Let bottle condition for at least 3...

    Man, I HATE Bottling....

Lol @ HOOTER!! Yeah, I'm from Alabama so I guess it qualifies. BUT it IS cheap and easy and you can take them wherever you want to party and only being ten of them, it's not a hassle at all. Takes about 10 minutes to bottle.

    Man, I HATE Bottling....

I'm a very low-rent kind of guy. I use 2 liter coke bottles and it only takes ten of them for a five gallon batch. I rinse them well after emptying, put the cap on and store until ready to fill. Then I spray some StarSan in each one, swish it around for a few seconds, then bottle. I've use the...

    Premier malt extract

Lol, no, not the King, I just use it cause it's readily available 1/4 mile from my house and it's only about $4.95 a can...it only takes about an hour to make a batch and if it doesn't turn out for some reason, it's not a great loss as far as time and expense. I started using it when I first...

    Premier malt extract

My favorite was a strawberry ale that I made. I used one can Premier Light, 6 cups table sugar ( no, I never have gotten "cider " taste from table sugar). I let this ferment in primary for 2 weeks and then siphoned to secondary. I then used 2 pounds of frozen strawberries that I thawed out and...
