Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday Deals Thread

I’m (self-interestedly) starting a Black Friday and cyber Monday deals thread. It’s been kind of slow in this forum lately, and I know I can’t be the only one to love a good deal.

What are people brewing for the holidays?

Quick update, I tapped it for Halloween! I had been underwhelmed when I kegged it but it really turned out beautifully after a few weeks of resting. I’m also throwing a canoe Chuck photo in as well! I believe these are brews #6 and #5 for me, respectively, and I couldn’t be happier with them...

What’s with all the low mileage secondhand anvil foundry units for sale??

I’m inclined to agree. Out of curiosity, where are you usually seeing them for sale? I spend time in atlanta and may try to scoop one while there

    Tesla Cyber Beer

This looks like another attempt at balance sheet tomfoolery to buoy the stock price in light of continuing cybertruck hurdles. I’ve never heard of Buzzrock, and they certainly don’t stand out on Untappd at a 3.66/5. What is it people say about Harley Davidson? A tshirt company that...

What are people brewing for the holidays?

On Saturday, I kegged Canoe Chuck (3# pils dme, 2# rice syrup solids, saaz for 5gal) for a month long lager in the kegerator. I also brewed a schwarzbier (4# dark dme, 1# blackprinz, perle, tettnang, and centennial for 5gal) to dump on the same yeast cake that is happily fermenting away now. I...

What’s with all the low mileage secondhand anvil foundry units for sale??

Thanks for pointing that out, I wasn’t aware of this. I imagine it’s luck of the draw like any electronic component… when you say they “aren’t serviceable” are we talking “they aren’t user serviceable but I could harass them consistently enough to take a look at it and/or take it to a electrical...

What’s with all the low mileage secondhand anvil foundry units for sale??

I’m here for this input! I’ve seen too many margartiaville machines at garage sales LOL. I’ve reached a nice stasis with my setup where I see myself continuing to brew for the foreseeable future. “Gimmick” comes to mind for the margaritaville machine, and I want to make sure there’s no pitfalls...

What’s with all the low mileage secondhand anvil foundry units for sale??

Thanks for the response. The “set and forget” (for lack of a better term) nature of the anvil is a real selling point for me. I’ve seen that you can BIAB in the foundry so it’s definitely a method I plan to explore. I think part of my hesitation is lacking the technical confidence to really...

What’s with all the low mileage secondhand anvil foundry units for sale??

Hello all, I’m new around here and new to homebrewing generally. I started ~5 months ago on extract kits and have done a lot to improve cold side processes by virtue of incremental upgrades with used gear. I’m looking to move into more sophisticated hot side as I’m currently still using a...

Starter from sour beer dregs has floaties

LOL sorry for rezzing a year old thread 🤦‍♂️ I’ve been half-assing my first sour, which included absentmindedly utilizing the search function after an imbibing a few of my prior creations. I’m definitely curious now, as my (inexperienced) mind immediately went to yeast rafts or kombucha/vinegar...

    First sour - sanity check

Update: after slight airlock activity (likely due to cherry powder) and steady high 60s ambient temp, I took another SG of 1.020. I decided to move it near the dehumidifier (measuring ~75F localized) and wrap it in a blanket to try and increase the temp to see if fermentation picks back up. The...

Starter from sour beer dregs has floaties

I would guess it’s a pellicle from one of the successfully cultured strains, which is a good sign

    First sour - sanity check

I considered both strains and will likely branch out to try them at some point. I don’t have dedicated souring equipment and figured L. plantarnum was a very easy strain to start with since it’s so hop intolerant. I have no hang ups on traditionality, so really open to any option!

    First sour - sanity check

Welcome! I was trying out the “souring - modern methods” technique of co-pitching yeast as normal alongside the lacto. I read lacto likes it a little warmer, and I had Nottingham on hand so I rolled with it. This is only my fourth beer so I didn’t really consider fusels but in hindsight you’re...
