    Using bread in your beer

I made a lager using bread as a ingredient. I read about this in online and I believe there is a brewery in England who uses old bread as a regular ingredient. The bread is toasted and used in the mash. See my Youtube video below.

    Refractometer

I bought a RSG 32ATC refractometer. The directions tell you to calibrate it before use so I did using tap water instead of distilled. I checked the temp of the water and it was per the specs. I didn't have to adjust the setting because the factory setting was dead on. I was kegging two...

    Beer Judge Question

I entered a American brown ale in a beer competition. I didn't brew the beer for the competition, I just decided to enter it after I brewed it. I thought the beer would probably get a score of 31-33 before I entered it. Judge #1 scored it a 31, the biggest issue being that the beer was too...

    Beer Glasses

My father in law was in the Army stationed in Germany during the early/mid 1970's. He just gave me a bunch a beer glasses he collected while he was in Europe. Check out the pictures and share any cool stories if you recognize any of these breweries.

Two puzzling comments I heard in the same night.

Bar #1: Natty Greene's Brew Pub, Location: Raleigh NC Natty Greene's is a brew pub in downtown Raleigh. Great beer, food, and atmosphere. I'm sitting at the bar enjoying golden Belgian ale. A guy sits and says to the bartender " I'll have whatever is closest to a Yuenglings and Sam Adams"...

I may be moving to Raleigh NC in the near future for work purposes. What is the craft beer scene like? I was in Raleigh last week and had dinner at Natty Green's Brew Pub and watched the Giants/Niners game at the Bust Bee Cafe. I really like both places. I had tried all the seasonal...

    Boiling outside in cold weather

Should I expect a lot more volume loss when boiling outdoors in 25 degree temps? I have a 20" diameter, 15 gallon pot. I usually have a rolling boil going. I normally start with 8.25-8.5 gallons of wort and finish with about 6 gallons. I finished on Saturday with about 4.5 gallons.

I didn't smack the pack hard enough

I forgot to check the Wyeast pack after I smacked it. The small bag of nutrients inside didn't break I poured it the wort anyways. 24 hours later, no bubbles or krausen. Do I need to add more yeast or should I wait and for how long? I've never used a smack pack before.
