    Worn out capper

I guess the more important question is, will the bottles I capped with the worn out capper still seal? Should I worry about that? Maybe recap them?

    Worn out capper

So the bell just wears down after use and then doesn't crimp as well?

    Worn out capper

I have one of those red plastic "butterfly style" cappers, and I noticed when capping my last batch that the caps didn't seem to be on very well. It didn't take much force to pry one off. Do these cappers wear out and need to be replaced? Does it sound like mine is malfunctioning?

drinking while brewing, now help me estimate O.G.

You sir, are a man of far greater self control than I.

drinking while brewing, now help me estimate O.G.

So say I'm making a Belgian Pale Ale, and I put the following fermentables into it: 6.6 lbs Briess Pilsen LME 2.6 lbs Muntons Light LME & 1 lbs Candi Sugar which Beer Calculus says should give me an O.G. of 1.077. Then I look at that, and I begin to wonder if maybe I didn't mean to...

    Fermenter Smells When Empty

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll try the bleach solution first, and then keeping it always full of beer. Any ideas about how much bleach to use?

    Fermenter Smells When Empty

After fermenting an apple cider a couple weeks ago my primary bucket smells distinctly of apples. It's not really a bad smell, but you can tell what I've been using the bucket for. Is this just bad cleaning? Will this give some apply flavor to my next batch? The bucket's been around for...

    Mt. Hood's Bitter IPA

Scratch that, I'll want more Millennium to compensate for a smaller boil volume.

    Mt. Hood's Bitter IPA

So I've played around with what you've got here, to better fit some ingredients that I have available, and what I'm looking at is something like this: 7Lbs Light DME 1.0 Lbs Caravienne 1.0 Lbs Carawheat 0.5 Lbs Caramunich .5 oz Millennium 60 min 1 oz Mt. Hood 40 min 1 oz Mt. Hood 20 min 1 oz...

    Hobbit Brew?

Nice job reminding us for the 1420 reverence, Bob! I'm going to bring that into my every day beer comments.

    Mt. Hood's Bitter IPA

This recipe looks interesting, any tips for converting it to extract?

What should I make with these hops?

Thanks for the suggestion Yankeehill, but I just opened up an IPA I had in bottles. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

What should I make with these hops?

I just picked up some hops on sale from my local homebrew shop, and I'm looking for some good extract recipes to make. I've got: 2oz Mt. Hood 4.8% 2oz Styrian Goldings 3.6% 2oz Millenium 15.9% 1oz Nugget 14.6% I can always pickup more hops if needed, but I'd like some suggestions for...

    Three week dry hop?

That's also reassuring to hear, I'm drying hopping with a 1/2 ounce of Saaz and a 1/2 ounce of Simco.

    Three week dry hop?

Well bhatchable, that's pretty much the answer I wanted to hear--because it sounds like everything that's happening to my beer will be okay! The temp is probably hovering a in the high 70's right now, and I'm doing an almost three week dry hop with only one once of hops. And I'm using...

    Three week dry hop?

So there seems to be some consensus that temperature is important? Does anyone have any experience with dry hoping for longer times at say 79 degrees f? I'm in the south, and temperature control isn't so easy, I really only have the space and energy to keep one fermenter cool at once, and...

    Three week dry hop?

I'm about to attempt my first dry hopping, and some of the reading I've done is conflicting about the length of time recommended for this. The safe estimate seems to be 1-2 weeks, but say I'm going out of town and can't bottle for 3 weeks from now. Should I rack into secondary and dry hop...

    40 oz bottles for homebrew?

The quart sized Tecate bottles also sell for just over $2 at my local supermarket. In my book isn't a bad price for a nice big bottle, and it comes filled with beer!
