This is UGLY! I've never, ever seen this before...

Just racked a wheat out of primary into a secondary. Managed this with the lid closed. While I was transferring I drew a little off and read FG plus tasted it. Good flavor but there was a little sour note on the backend, not much but some. When I was done transferring and opened up the...

    Best Thermometer for Brewing Day?

I've had enough! I fought with my POS thermometer in my last brew session and have decided that this critical piece of gear in my toolbox needs some TLC. I mash in a 10g water cooler and boil in a converted keg. I don't plan on mounting a thermometer in either vessel so I'm looking for...

    Marbles as a Mash Filter

Has anyone ever tried using a bed of marbles in the bottom of the MT as a filtration? Any guesses on how well it might/might not work? There was a thread here a few weeks back where someone had a SS screen in the bottom of a MLT but the screen was several inches off the bottom and a...

    Super strong head retention/formation?

I want to brew a hefe that has a really strong head formation and retention. Half my grist will be wheat, which will do a lot for it. I'm doing a single step infusion at 156 which will help and I'm adding 1/2lb of Carafoam to the batch. Any other tips/tricks that DON'T include adding foaming...

    What's your brewery name?

A lot of us have our brewery names in our sigs, but humor me. Tell me your brewery name and the reasoning behind it. For me it is the Five Missions Brewhouse, named for the five historical Spanish missions in San Antonio. Believe it or not the Alamo is just the most famous of the lot.

    And Diving Back In.

So I've been homebrewing since the early 90's but after a nasty divorce (is there any other kind?) several years back I'm finally getting back into it. I do all grain and am literally starting over from zero equipment, zero materials, zero ingredients. Schaweet! I'm posting this b/c I would...

    Brew Cube Reviews?

Austin HB is selling a 'Brew Cube', for less than $50. Anyone used one? Would be nice to ferment 10g all at one go. I don't think I'm too worried about scratches b/c I can simply be super careful with the interiors. Thoughts?

    Best General Knowledge Brewing Book?

What's the current state of the art here? TCJOH is still in print but what is out there that is fresher and more uptodate? Or is that still considered the holy bible? Looking for a good general knowledge brewing book with plenty of practice, science, etc. Thanks! Oh, and... :ban:

I Need a 'Blue' Beer please

Last night my wife and I were sitting at a local brewpub talking about beers and whatnot. I mentioned that coming up in about April I need to start my brews for the summer's July 4th party. She was sipping on a wheat and I was working on a red ale and she said we should do something along the...
