    co2 tank dimensions

Agreed trying to carbonate with a paintball CO2 tank is not a great idea, but you should be able to push 2 or 3, 5 gallon kegs with a paintball tank. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a very sexy stainless nitrogen regulator than I'll be converting for CO2. The brass one I have...

    Homemade Syrup Concentrate

I was interested in doing a similar thing, making my own concentrates from fruit. After much investigation it seems like freeze concentration is the way to go. Unfortunately there is a lot of complicated equipment involved. From what I saw it was much more of an industrial job than I was...

    Fermenting Cider with Preservatives

This is good news ... but holy $H!T $6.50 a gallon..!! I get my fresh pressed un-preserved cider for $2 a gallon when the do the pressing. They are happy enough to sell it to me like that since they don't have to bottle it. It goes straight into my 7.5 gal primary and they can also cut out...

    DIY Juice Concentrator ?

Has anyone made or seen plans for a juice concentrator? I am interested in ideas for either freeze concentrators or vacuum/bell-jar concentrators. I would love to be able to up the OG of cider without adding sugar, I don't need to get 3x concentration but reducing the water content by 15 or...

[Not a] Bike Pump Keg [Evolution]

It's been a while since I have been in this thread but I stumbled across this and felt that I should add it. This is by far the easiest way to get from regulator to a paintball CO2 tank. WilliamsBrewing

[Not a] Bike Pump Keg [Evolution]

I just called a local gas supplier here ... the "food-grade" product gets extra filtration before going into tanks. The filters are very expensive I guess so not practical for me to buy for personal use, but getting refills with filtered gas seems like the fix if you want to go portable with...

[Not a] Bike Pump Keg [Evolution]

About the food grade CO2 and CO2 in general ... I can't find anyone other than a paintball shop that will refill a CO2 tank, they all do an exchange, I am sure somewhere this is done commonly but not anywhere I can find here. I am hoping one of the pros here will chime in about food-grade CO2...

[Not a] Bike Pump Keg [Evolution]

How do you get paintball CO2 bottles filled with food grade CO2, without refilling them yourself? As I understand it there are small amounts of lubricants in the CO2 used for non-food grade products. FYI here is a paintball can adapter (pin valve type) for $7.50 Supply-N-Demand, LLC. ... and...

Results from juice, yeast and sugar experiments

CvilleKevin - thanks for the input. As far as I understand the risk of bottle bombs increases when you are bottle carbing, if you are using a keg to force carb the presence of CO2 and lack of O2 in the bottle should cease fermentation and keep your risk of bursting to a minimum, regardless of...

Results from juice, yeast and sugar experiments

Cold crashing will only slow down yeast, it won't kill it. You can use P.S. and sulfites to halt fermentation (or nearly halt) fermentation. But if you want a sweet & carbonated bottled cider, you need fermentation to get the carbonation, and if you are actively fermenting and there is sugar...

Okay to Use Plastic Beer Fermenter for Cider?

I asked the same thing a while ago here https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f32/fermenter-types-cider-105531/ I got allot of mixed answers. From what I gather some of the award winning cider producers swear that they can taste something that is imparted to the cider from the plastic. Of course...

1 gallon Keg...Anybody seen one of these before?

Exactly..! These are way more portable and they will even fit in my kitchen fridge, and with a portable CO2 rig like this one, they are super portable, and in the Igloo ... nice touch. Portable Paintball CO2 Rig- Lustreking Brewing Yeah I agree $120 is way too much, if I could get one...

1 gallon Keg...Anybody seen one of these before?

Has anyone every taken a 5gal and chopped it down to 2gal or so? It seems like a fairly easy project if you have a MIG or TIG welder. Other than a not so pretty seam around the keg it should work rather nicely. Any advice on this one ...? BTW Midwest carries new 2.5gal kegs ... cute but...

DIY Monster Bottle Tree w/ pics

Drew_101 ... If you are drilling holes and mounting PVC branches into a PVC trunk I would think that PVC primer (to clean) and PVC cement should do nicely if your holes are relatively smooth. Alternately you can use something stong and bulky like subfloor adhesive ... though I have no idea if...

    Cold Crashing Cider

I am trained as microelectronics engineer ... but my job has me as a working to in more of a process control mode. The college degree is totally useless for what I do ... but I couldn't have nabbed the job w/o it. ...Regardless of what I do if I drink more than 40oz or so there is no chance...

Results from juice, yeast and sugar experiments

Hi CvilleKevin - I didn't notice any mention of yeast nutrient in any of your postings. Do you have any wisdom to share on this topic?

    Sam's Choice Sparkling Cider

Nice ... I like the simple approach. But no yeast nutrient? I'd only assume that if you added nutrient the %alc would go up and the cider would be dryer. I am still brewing my first batch of cider so clearly I have no experience with this.
