    Yeast for Kolsch

I am currently drinking a Kolsch I made with Omega Yeast Kolsch II. Came out really good. Nice light end, very drinkable beer. Classic ale flavor with a hint of pear/white wine taste. Would highly recommend this yeast. So good, in fact, that I have another batch in my fermenter right now.

Brewbuilt x2 jacketed or spike cf5

I'm really saying the same thing Bobby said, in another way. I'd add, at this price point, don't let a couple hundred $$ sway you either way. Pony up. Having equipment that suits your purposes more closely will more than make up for the cost over time. I have the Spike CF. I brew PF lagers...

Brewbuilt x2 jacketed or spike cf5

Depends on your needs. If temp control is a big thing for you it might be better to pony up and get the x2. If not, I think the Spike CFs do a good job. They can be temperamental about holding pressure as well but it's something you learn to deal with as it happens. Apartment Brewer just...

    Back To Basics

If this helps...I know this is not my original concept, but... I'm an old guy with a bad back as well. I brew 15 gal batches out of my clawhammer biab system. To remove the basket, I use one of those cheapo $100 electric winches from amazon. I mounted it to the ceiling of my basement and...

Grow lager yeast for 60L batch

I'd consider just buying 3 packs and don't look back. I (warm) pressure ferment 15 gal batches in a spike conical with 3 packs of 34/70 all the time. My target ABV is usually 5-5.5%. I do them in my basement which is currently 68 deg F, without issue. 8 psi on the beer if that helps. I've...

    Beginner equipment setup

You've got some good advice already but, here's yet another idea. I know you mentioned 5 gal batches, but.. If you're considering something like a Spike CF, you might want to also think about going for a 10 or even a 15 gal unit. You can always do a 5 gal batch in a smaller one, but not a...

What do you use RO water for, besides brewing?

There can be more than just good things in your water. You don't get to pick and choose what you remove. RO systems remove everything. The bad things as well as the good. You can get all the minerals you need from supplements and/or eating a quality diet. I use RO water for everything...

    Spike CF5 lid pressure fail

Put some sanitizer in a spray bottle and generously spray anywhere you have a connection to the lid, including the 3 ports on top. Watch for bubbles. During active fermentation you should be producing a good amount of CO2 that should give away the leak. If it is done fermenting, (attempt to)...

    Spike CF5 lid pressure fail

How tight do you tighten the clamp? On my CF15, I had some issues early on because I was trying to make the gap at the screw tightener thingy 1/4" or whatever the destructions called for. Dealt with a slow leak when I got above 6-8 psi. I cranked it down as tight as I could get it (within...

Expensive Chicken Wings w/ Fast Food Pizza

Duff's are good wings. One thing I'm not a fan of is that they dump a lot of sauce on their wings and the lowest ones sit in it. As they're the last ones eaten, they tend to sog up a bit IMO. I usually put just enough sauce on to coat them nicely and that's it. That's my personal preference...

Expensive Chicken Wings w/ Fast Food Pizza

Couple of tips for you at-home guys for making wings. (We don't call them buffalo/hot/anything else you've heard wings here, just wings.. lol) 1) Read the bag. If you buy the frozen bags of wings, make sure you use wings that do not have any (saline) solution injected into them. I've seen...

Something You Wish You’d Started Doing Sooner (in Home Brewing)

Lots of good advice in this thread. One thing I might add is to use a brewing app. I've got about 20 batches under my belt and I'm making some pretty good, consistent warm fermented pressure pseudo-lagers. Brewfather guides you through your brew day and you're not wondering afterword... Did I...

Kegerator spitting foam and no beer

Not knocking your point about the liquid line, I agree. I get what you're saying about volumes of carbonation, but where I was going with that was eliminating the foam bombs. If we can get him to pouring better, but a little undercarbed he can adjust up from there. It's something he can do...

Kegerator spitting foam and no beer

I'd start with the basics... Sounds almost like you have your lines reversed..? Make sure white (gas) is hooked up to IN and black (liquid) to OUT. Also, did you take the keg apart when you cleaned it? Are you sure that the long dip tube is on the OUT port and the short one is on the IN...
