I want to lager in my garage this winter .. need blanket advice

I want to lager in my garage this winter using an electric blanket and an inkbird controller. The problem is that a lot of the electric blankets that are available have an automatic cut-off feature, and I want to make sure that this is not going to interfere. Can anyone here recommend a make /...

Leave the Chiller IN when you run off

I know for some of you this is dead obvious, but after chilling the last BIAB batch I did ( A nice Dunkelweizen ), I pulled out the immersion chiller before running off my wort into the fermenter through my kettle ball valve. As soon as I pulled up the chiller, clouds of kettle trub that had...

What causes this kind of strange off-flavor?

My buddy has brewed several batches now that all had the same kind of off-flavor. It's hard to describe but it's a harsh, back-of-the-throat bitterness that comes as an aftertaste in an otherwise good tasting brew. Room temperature fermentation with SafLager 34/70

The brulosophy guys seem to think you can brew a decent lager with Saflager 34/70 fermented at room temperature. Has anybody here tried this? If so, what were your results?

Is there an advantage to an early mash-in for BIAB?

My brew kettle thermometer has a "mash-in" label at around 120F. Is there some advantage to mashing in at this temp and then heating to saccarification temp? I always thought you would dough in at your strike temp.

Anybody know of a vendor that sells corny carbonation lids with a pin-lock fitting?

I really want to get one of the carbonation lids that has an attached hose / carbonation stone, but unfortunately I have pin-lock kegs and all the ones I have seen have a ball lock gas post. I would prefer to not have to switch out my gas coupler just to do carbonation. Does anybody know of a...

    Hello!

Philly area here... I've done about 20 extract/partial mash batches and I just acquired enough equipment to do a full-sized boil / BIAB. About to go all-grain! Favorites: Moose Drool, Dunkelweiss, Bavarian Hefe, Belgian blondes (the beers not the chicks ) 😃
