Alternative to PWM/SSR for heating elements?

Could this be a good alternative to the PWM/SSR combination for controlling a 2000W 120V heating element? http://www.bakatronics.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=597 I am looking to get a simple control for my heating element without using a PID, temperature probe, etc. Just something to dial the...

    All Stainless Heatstick design

I really like using heatsticks instead of an element mounted in the kettle because I remove the heatstick before I whirlpool.

Getting 240VAC outlet in kitchen .. oven outlet?

I used this for a while in a similar situation. Hooked it up to my electric stove outlet and it allowed me to still use my stove without unplugging it. Plenty of power for electric brewing. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/plug-heatsticks-into-your-stove-outlet-184014/ I later added a 30...

    Electric Brew Heater

Does anyone have any experience with the Brewer's Best Electric Brew Heater? http://www.southernhomebrew.com/brbeelbrhe.html Yes, I know I can build a much cheaper heatstick. I have built many of them in the past and am currently using a DIY heatstick to brew with. I am using a heatstick...

Heatstick of doom! Start with wiring Qs.

That was the first thing that I tried (before tightening it more) and it did not work. The original gasket is now deformed, I would have to get a new one.

Heatstick of doom! Start with wiring Qs.

The gasket that came with the element leaked. After nostalgia's suggestion, I bought a package of gaskets for about $6 from Home Depot. Not sure if it was the same one that he used. It had a few orange gaskets that seemed to be a little bit harder than the original black gasket that came with...

Heatsticks vs mounting element in keggle...

I prefer using heatsticks for a few reasons. I don't have to drill a hole in the side of a nice kettle. I think cleaning a heatstick is easier, not sure how you would be able to clean the bottom of the element when it is installed in a kettle. I also like to remove the heatstick at the end of...

    Anyone use a 240V 4500-5500W heatstick?

What is that stainless piece that holds the heatstick in place on the pot? That looks really cool. I always have trouble keeping heatsticks in the same position.

Heatstick of doom! Start with wiring Qs.

Joe, Thanks for your replies, I am looking to build one of these soon. Did you stick with the 1/2" vertical copper pipe and how did you seal it up and make some sort of isulating handle at the top end of the pipe where the wire comes out? Were you able to attach a ground wire somewhere?

Heatstick of doom! Start with wiring Qs.

Thanks. Do you think 1.5" would be big enough? Now that it's been a while since you built this, how is it working? Would you change anything?

    Are the tri-clamps 1.5" or 2"?

    Off flavors with dark malts

My mash, sparge, sanitation and everything else stays consistent between my beers. I have been adding my strike water to my MLT, most of my grain, then the brewing salts, and then the rest of the grain. After that I mix it all up before letting it rest. I add the second addition of brewing...

    Off flavors with dark malts

This time I brewed a hoppy amber ale. I was shooting for 16 SRM. Here is my water information and adjustments. I still got the same bad taste. I do not get this taste with any of my paler beers. I also got this bad taste in a brown ale that I recently brewed. Any ideas? Starting Water...
