    Homebrewing in Italy?

I will probably be near Napoli/Solerno... I was looking more for personal experiences, or secondhand knowledge of actually being able to get fresh ingredients. I too worked my google foo, and found links to sites in Italian (which I do not speak yet), but that's a far cry from having a solid...

    Homebrewing in Italy?

I just snagged one of my dream jobs, and I'm headed to Italy (likely south) early next year. I love homebrewing, and have really started ramping up my operation since I finished school in August this year. My question is this: Am I going to be able to get the ingredients I need to actually...

    WTB/WTT: Ball Lock Fittings

I'm in need of a pin-lock gas post/poppet when you get around to putting them up for sale.

First Wort Hopping - White Paper (Sort of)

Great! Thanks for the response and the details. I'm definite going to have to give this a try.

    REAL Beer bread

I think he was saying to put the trub (as much as possible probably) into a large glass, an then to let it sit overnight and separate most of the liquid out. He then made a starter from the separated yeast. That's how I read it anyway.

    Kegs on a Plane

I plan to call them in advance for sure, but why would a keg be any different as far as a pressurized vessel than say, a case of beer?

    Kegs on a Plane

I did a little more research, and American, like Delta apparently has no restrictions on alcoholic beverages under 20%. They don't restrict bee at all, though it has to be packaged well. As far as pressureized vessels is concerned, not only were they not concerned about the keg, but veery...

    Kegs on a Plane

My buddy is getting married, and I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience checking kegs on a passenger liner. I've got some little 2.5 gallon sanke kegs that would fit nicely in my checked baggage, and I'd really like to make something special for his last night as a bachelor. I...

9oz co2 tank on portable keg?

    I serve multiple 5 gallon kegs using a single 20oz paintball CO2 tank. I don't think you'd have a problem with one on a 9oz personally.

First Wort Hopping - White Paper (Sort of)

What would the equivalent of FWH be in a BIAB process? Would you add hops to the mash, or immediately after (which is well before a full boil obviously)? Is it even really possible in BIAB brewing?

    noob q

The only alcohol percentage refractometers I've seen don't work in tinted or sugary solutions. Interesting if they have some that do though.

    noob q

Not quite. Alcohol content throws the readings off. Unless you are correcting for the presence of alcohol, you're readings with a refractometer will be wrong.

Concern for a Pin-Lock Keg Leak

In all likelihood you're just seeing the drop in pressure associated with cooling the tank. An easy way to check is to remove it from the cold environment and let it warm back up to room temperature.

    Legal - Texas Beer Wars

It's too bad there isn't a good constitutional argument for the distribution woes that plague breweries in Texas... this will be interesting if it works out, but it's only a small part of the problem. Of course, if it leads to a blossoming of the craft brewery scene, money talks, and other...

    Dry Yeast for a Hefe

I recently brewed a hefe using Danstar's Munich yeast, and I found the results fantastic (compared directly to Wyeast and White Labs hefe yeast on the same batch).

New to Wine Homebrew, Missing Instructions

I've got some follow on questions: Does wine benefit from a short period of heightened fermentation temperatures for "clean-up"? Also, would cold-crashing it be a good thing, bad thing, or would it cause no noticeable effect?

New to Wine Homebrew, Missing Instructions

Excellent. I've got some beers fermenting away at 68... The wine will fit in nicely. What about the warm and hot? Is it really insignificant enough that they don't need to specify temps?

New to Wine Homebrew, Missing Instructions

Good stuff! Thanks again. I noticed that the instructions use terms like, "warm," "hot," and "65-75" deg F. Are there specific target temperatures we should be going for here? Is there a more specific target range for these temps? The yeast pack doesn't even have an ideal range on it (thought I...

New to Wine Homebrew, Missing Instructions

I dug a little deeper and was able to find a pdf of the instructions. Thanks for the short how-to, Yooper! Since this thread's already up, what are some things that I can do to make this wine even better? I'm assuming since it's still a yeast gig, that fermentation temperatures are also...
