    If by S/S Mash Tun, you are referring to the SS Brewtech Mash Tun, then you can't add direct heat to that, other than via the small heating element they sell as an accessory .

    Adding heat to a deep freeze fermenter.

    I use a reptile bulb for heating. I wrote my own controller using a raspberry Pi and 3 DS18B20 temperature sensors. I have one in the thermowell, one in the freezer and one in the room.     3 Tier spacing

    I'm building a frame for a 3 tier gravity system. How much vertical space do I need between the bottom of my HLT and the top of my mash tun? I've seen comments about 2 - 3 ft is required, but this makes the stand very tall. For an effective sparge, do I really need 2-3 foot separation?

    Full 5 gallon boiling

    I do extract and have a 10 gallon kettle. I do a full boil and I always start with 6.5 gallons of water. This accounts for boil off and leaving a little in the kettle at the end to avoid the trub getting into the fermentor.
