Where did you get your bag?

I have two Wilser "grand slam" packages (pulley, brew bag, and 2 hop socks). Would recommend. One is for 5 gallon batches, one is for little stove top 1 gallon batches. Both fit like a glove.

    Over carbonation causing color change?

I definitely will some day! For now kegging is out of scope for my small NYC apartment.

    Over carbonation causing color change?

I actually opened the two in the picture at the exact same time, one for me one for my wife. They had been bottle conditioning for three weeks per the recipe.

    Over carbonation causing color change?

Yep, 16.9 oz swing tops. Agree on oxidation, I am pretty sure it wasn't infection based on the taste. So far 3/4 of the bottles are badly oxidized. Two remain to be opened and the one turned out great which is puzzling.

    Over carbonation causing color change?

Thanks all, I should also note this is my first time using the swing top bottles, so my first time not using oxygen absorbing bottle caps. For my next attempt at a NEIPA I am going back to regular bottles with oxygen absorbing caps and am going to use my sodastream to purge them with CO2 both...

    Over carbonation causing color change?

OK thanks @Yooper, yes after Googling "oxidation color beer"I found this blog which describes exactly what I am seeing. http://scottjanish.com/headspace-hazy-ipa-oxidation/ The blog however mentions how one ten gallon batch was oxidized while another batch was not. Any idea why one bottle was...

    Over carbonation causing color change?

Hey team, I opened my first BIAB (I've done >10 extract brews) today which I bottled in swing-top bottles three weeks ago. It is a New England/Hazy IPA. I got six pints out of a one gallon BIAB setup. I was really puzzled to find that two pints, bottled from the same gallon, had completely...

Moving to a new city, beer in hot moving truck?

Hi all, I am moving to a new city in late July. I have 36 belgian quads (9.5% abv) and 36 imperial stouts (9.8% abv) that I am bringing with me. Should I be worried about these being in a moving truck which I imagine could get as hot as 100-110 degrees F inside if is say, 90 F outside? The...

    What to transfer post whirlpool?

Thanks @cswant88 , I ended up sticking my auto-siphon into a hop sock before siphoning into primary, that seems to have helped. I'll use the hop sock for the dry hop additions.

    What to transfer post whirlpool?

Hey all, sorry for the brevity, hoping to get a reply before my wort is cooled off and ready to be transferred to primary. I am doing the recipe below which has a 40 minute "whirlpool" hop stand. Before I started I looked up what whirlpooling was and it seems that simply with a spoon you can...

    Cutting Down Batch Sizes? Easy..

Yes, space limitations. I currently do 5 gallons but have literally no closet space in my next apartment in NYC. I will be doing 1 gallon batches. Agree it's just as much work but I'm doing it to maintain the hobby not just for the beer.

    Homebrew MUST Haves

A spray bottle with Star San, and lots of paper towels.

    Insulation vs. Low Heat?

Nice, I like the oven idea. I will go with that. I'm just trying to minimize the amount of equipment I need with limited storage space, even if that is just a ratty sleeping bag or blanket I use for insulation.

    Insulation vs. Low Heat?

Looking to start BIAB after about ten extract batches. I am curious about all the talk about insulation to keep the wort at a proper temperature during mashing. Why couldn't you just keep your heat source (stove in my case) on low to keep a constant temp, monitoring the temp and adjusting as...

    YEAST FOR IMPERIAL STOUT

Fair, it may have had more to do with how long secondary fermentation was (3 months), I think that is long enough for yeast to fall out of suspension.

Which yeast is your favorite dry yeast for making mead?

D47 worked well for me. Got up to 12.6%.

    Boil Size

I agree, I've had some brews with 3 gallons of water + extract that have almost boiled over in my 5 gallon pot if I'm not paying attention. When I'm paying attention it's never a problem but that's with 3 gallons. I think 4 gallons would be too much.

Head disappears quickly and no carbonation

What was your OG and FG? Did you add sugar right before bottling? Or are you kegging?

    Brewing-deployed to the Middle East

Thank you for your service! I've made mead (from honey) and it does not require a lot of equipment, you never have to boil it. If you think you can get honey over there and this interest you I can send you more details on what you may want.

    Who makes good kits?

I've done about nine Northern Brewer kits and have had good experiences. They are very pricey, I hope to transition to all grain but am just sort of limited by how small my apartment kitchen is.
