    No Head in my beer

I would also try not rinsing your glass before pouring. The dry glass creates friction as the beer is poured into it, which will produce more head. There could be a number of contributing factors, but I would certainly try this.

POLL : Do you typically do a secondary fermentation?

43 replies and 88% say no secondary. I know the poll was a bit simple and their are many variables which might cause someone to use a secondary when they normally do not, but at least it tells me that a primary will suffice for most brews.

    Very long ferment

Interesting. I have my fourth batch in the carboy now and am experiencing the same thing with Safale Us-05. Started bubbling at about the 36 hour mark, built up about 1" of krausen and is still burping slowly at day 5. I was worried that something was wrong. I guess different yeast types...

    How to boost ABV?

Wow! I assume that you mean that I can add as much as 4 lbs of honey? Yes, I had my decimal in the wrong place in the OP. 1/2 lb of corn sugar will increase ABV by 1/2%. Does that apply to honey as well? It seems that corn sugar would be cheaper, but I really have no idea because I can't...

    How to boost ABV?

New home brewer here (4 batches) and I was in my LHBS over the weekend purchasing a BB Grapefruit IPA kit and asked about how to simply boost the ABV of a kit recipe. He suggested adding 1/2 lb of corn sugar to the boil for every .50% increase in ABV. I have no reason to doubt this, but just...

POLL : Do you typically do a secondary fermentation?

I'm liking the responses so far. Racking to a secondary is a major PITA.

POLL : Do you typically do a secondary fermentation?

When you brew your most common, favorite beers do you do a secondary fermentation or just use primary?

From extract to all grain and back?

Interesting. I have recently started brewing extracts and just finished up my fourth batch. All have been great! So if the above is true, I simply have to decide if the extra $13 I spend on an extract kits is worth saving an additional three hours of my time. My initial thought is, absolutely...

Temp at which to pitch yeast

Thanks for the replys everyone. I bought a complete setup from a retired brewer, which included a great wort chiller, but realized too late that I could not connect it to my kitchen faucet. I need to figure out how to use this. I brewed a 3 Gal wort and added cold tap water to get to 5 Gal. I...

Temp at which to pitch yeast

Hello all. New member here and excited to begin my new hobby of home brewing. I have been reading extensively, watching videos, etc and finally had my first brewday this past Friday. Everything went well with the boil, until I realized I could not cool my wort down very quickly. It took an...
