    Wooden Kegs

I contacted both companies when I started this thread and have not received a reply yet. They might not want to deal with selling just 1 barrel to some lowly home brewer lol

    Wooden Kegs

I already have kegs , my shift at work has 26 guys and 2 gals , a lot with wife’s and kids. Several times a year we will get together. They all know I brew. We could finish off a barrel in a night. It would only be used for when we all got together.

    Wooden Kegs

I think it still imparts some kind of flavor , I’m not sure. Just in the research phase of this plan. My back yard bonfires in the winter with my neighbors need a barrel of beer.

    Wooden Kegs

Brewers pitch is made of pine pitch and resin. Pitch is a by product of making turpentine. It’s more or less a solid at room temp but you can heat it up and coat the inside of the barrel to keep away the oak flavor and to help seal the barrel.

    Wooden Kegs

I also saw barrels made by sascha rudnik. I don’t know if I want to know how much shipping would be . Has anyone here ordered from either of these company’s before ?

    Wooden Kegs

Has anyone bought a wooden barrel and lined it with pine pitch to use as a serving keg at parties? I’m thinking of starting with a small one to test it out. My plan is to lager my beer out like usual , krausen in the barrel and then seal it up for a few weeks to carb and get clear again before...

    I'm about to give up.

You really need to give WLP-300 a try , I know someone else posted it and I know it’s supposed to have an equivalent but I have made a lot of Hefeweizen and I find 1 pack of WLP-300 per 5 gal at 66 degrees gives me lots of banana. Good luck with the quest !

Does anyone line their mash tun with a BIAB?

I’ve been doing this since my 3rd batch a couple years ago. My false bottom was crap so I improvised and got a bag from my LHBS . I brew with a lot of wheat and haven’t had a stuck sparge since going this rout.

It’s not done carbonating yet . Only been in the keg a few days but I had to pull a sample , ended up pouring 2 more ! It’s a pre prohibition American Pilsner at 30 ibu and 5.8 abv

Who's NOT making IPAs and what are you brewing?

I never brew ipa and I might only drink 1-2 a year . I almost exclusively brew lagers . Right now I have a pre prohibition American Pilsner going . I brew a lot of Pilsner these days.

Trying Saflager for the first time

Trying Saflager for the first time

Do you have room for a chest freezer? You can get a good deal on a small one on Craig’s list and a 20 dollar Inkbird and you will be all good for lagers . It’s the best move I have made to make my beer better .

Yeast recommendation for Cream ale (with late hop addition)

I like wlp029 for my cream ales although I’m experimenting with using lager yeast ( 34/70 ) right now which I guess puts it in the category of classic American Pilsner. Still have another month to see how it turns out . I used 20 percent flaked maize , 80 percent Idaho 2 row Pilsner malt and 23...

    Lager reaching FG too fast?

With 34/70 pitched at 50 and fermented at 55 I have to start my D rest on day 6. It’s pretty quick yeast .

    Frozen lager

Simple , the beer has alcohol in it lowering the freezing point . The yeast pack is the same as the yeast is grown in the pack if I’m not mistaken. Your beer will be fine !

American Lager OMG! Classic American Pilsner is Awesome

I just brewed one 80 percent Idaho 2 row 20 percent corn 23 ibu of cluster 1.053 OG and 34/70 for yeast I can’t wait to try it!
