    Home Brew Talk Poem

Here's what we are up against... Edgar Allen Poe, Lines on Ale... Filled with mingled cream and amber, I will drain that glass again. Such hilarious visions clamber Through the chamber of my brain. Quaintest thoughts, queerest fancies Come to life and fade away. What care I how time advances; I...

    Home Brew Talk Poem

Some good, some better. All are inspirational... Invigorating this 10 year old thread. So, here goes: Let's be real clear. I'm out of beer. I've got one that's near, But it's not very clear. So why should I fear, Tastes great and it's dear. Three weeks is a year Without any beer!

    Northern Brewer - Buyer Beware

FInally got my order from Northern Brewer. I ordered 3 different varieties of hops (1-oz pellets), 16 oz in all. The alpha acid % was not listed on any packets. While I can ball-park the flavor & aroma additions with those intended for that purpose, the magnum hops meant for bittering is a...

    1.8% Alpha - Hallertauer Mittelfruh

Makes me seriously consider switching to Crystal hops. As long as American and British hops retain their aa%, I'll be ok. But then there's Tettnang, another one of my favorites.

    1.8% Alpha - Hallertauer Mittelfruh

Well, I'm mixing one pkg with 2 pkgs at 4.1%. Hopefully, this will minimize any possible flavor impact.

    1.8% Alpha - Hallertauer Mittelfruh

Good reply! Good article. Thanks. So long as the flavor isn't affected, I guess I'm safe.

    1.8% Alpha - Hallertauer Mittelfruh

Recently picked up some Hallertauer Mittelfruh with a 1.8% alpha acid content. I'll be using it for flavor & aroma additions to llimit the amount of vegetable matter in the spider. However, I've never come across such a low AA percentage. Anyone know of any issues with numbers this low? Didn't...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Wednesday, actually. I need something for summer. A double lawnmower ale ought to be nice. A simple blonde ale, all Hallertauer at 1.065 🙂 Next up, Thomas Hardy Ale for a winter brew (won't last beyond that!). Dbl Cream Ale (1.075) clearing. Maibock at d-rest.

looking for a chocolate raspberry liqueur recipe ?

Those kits, esp for the Desert Wines, seem to be pretty rigid in their ingredients and process. I seem to recall the chocolate and raspberry comes together in a single packet called a Chaptalization pack. To attempt to alter the ingredients without having made one of the kits before hand would...

looking for a chocolate raspberry liqueur recipe ?

Some of the port wine kits might have something close to what you are looking for. Winexpert, for example. I did a chocolate raspberry port wine once. Not too bad, for what it was. My wife liked it.

Can you Make a Really Good Lager with Corn?

That's a good grain bill, about what I use. i was about to tell you to use Hallertauer for flavor & aroma until I saw your later post . Now you have me thinking about Magnum.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Happy brewing John & Chuck! Now boiling a 1.066 Sticke Alt., and cold crashing a big version of Lil Sparky's Nut Brown Ale, 6th iteration. Merry Christmas to all from foggy Fort Wayne!

    Why do people Quit brewing?

The question I get is, "This is good! Why don't you open your own brewery?" No, I don't want to ruin a fun hobby by making it a job. And I will never be able to make this because it would cost too much to produce. And as far as the tangerine cinnamon goes, it's getting so that the brewpubs seem...

Lil' Sparky's Brown Ale with Rye

I've been making Lil Sparky's (boosted to the mid 60's) for 5 iterations and love it. But I'm thinking of replacing the oatmeal with 2 lbs of rye malt. Has anyone added Rye to Lil Sparky's? What are your thoughts?

    Mash hopping

Many years ago I mash hopped CAP’s and Cream Ales. It was hit-or-miss as far as flavor goes. When it worked, it was very nice – a good smooth and mellow flavor. But I seem to recall that 2 ounces of hops were all that the recipe would accommodate. Any more and it seemed like I would get an...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Monday, actually. I've taken Lil Sparky's Nut Brown and boosted it to mid 60's, low 70's.. (high 60's for this brew). 5th iteration. Great recipe! I've swapped the flavor hops - 30 mins EKG as bittering, 1..5 oz Fuggle at 15 mins for flavor. (Love Fuggle in a brown ale), BU:GU = 0.37, mash at...

    What are you drinking now?

Yeah, I use Frank's. Can't get Crystal here. But not much difference. Anyway, it's the flavor that both Franks and Crystal brings. Love that flavor on my scrambled eggs & sausage. If it's heat you want, go for the powder.
