I want to progress from extract brewing

Hi all, I've been extract brewing for the last couple of years now trying out different hop combinations on the same base recipe. I've been able to get some nice hop combinations, and although occasionally a little too bitter (and I do mean a little depending on hop amount/boil times), I...

My IPA has n hoppiness//fruitiness... Help?

Hi all, This has been my 6th 5galleon batch of extract brewing, and my 2nd of this particular brew. Each batch I have done has followed the same recipe only really changing the hops throughout. This batch is: boil 1.5kg light malt extract in about 13.5l of filtered water, with 45g of Amarillo...

    Urgent! NO SIGN OF FERMENTATION!

Hey there! Thanks for responding again! There's no leak at all, are there's simply no pressure in the bucket. I've had a look inside to add the yeast, and there's no Krause either. I've dry hopped a lot but scooped it out the way... I'm doing golden ales & IPA mainly and as I said before, I've...

    Urgent! NO SIGN OF FERMENTATION!

Hey guys, thanks for the quick response! Basically, boiled about 14litres water with 1.5kg light malt extract (syrup) & hops 60mins. Once done added 500g light spray malt & 1kg brewing sugar. Cooled down for a few hours, transfered to fermenting bucket, topped up to 25litres with filtered...

    Urgent! NO SIGN OF FERMENTATION!

Hi all, Last Sunday I completed a boil on my newest ale (it's only my 6th ever batch, but the 5 until now have worked out great!). I added 1kg brew sugar and spray malt about 30mins after the boil, then pitched the yeast about 8hours later, as usual. 4 days later, there was no sign of...

Need answers - 2nd extract brew!

Thanks for all your pointers! You've given me a lot to think about! I agree that 150g hops for the full 60mins is excessive. I think during my first brew I was thinking that boiling the hops would give off a lot of fruitiness, but obviously it didn't so I thought doubling the amount would help...

Need answers - 2nd extract brew!

Thanks for the response! I think I've mistaken happiness for bitterness! The first beer was a very basic recipe, and though I was happy with the outcome - particularly as a first time, I guess I thought that the lack of flavour in terms of fruitiness, etc. was due to there not being enough hops...

Need answers - 2nd extract brew!

Hey all! I've finished drinking my second extract brew (both IPA/Golden/Blonde ale) now - I have to say I've been really happy with the way both turned out in terms of the fact that neither was cloudy, both had a nice hoppy flavour, and generally I felt that they wouldn't be out of place in my...

New brewer - Questions need answering!

Hi there! I brewed my first batch of blonde pale ale about 6 weeks ago using a recipe from the local brew shop. Turned out really nice despite how basic the recipe was (100g Amarillo hops, 1.5kg light malt extract, 500g light pale malt powder, and 1kg sugar). However, when I first tested my...
