    No head

I recently had a head retention issue and read that a very aggressive boil can hurt head retention. Looking back, my boil was probably too active (I was having to fight back foam/boil over much of the boil, which was odd).

Will an infected beer taste obviously infected?

3 gallon batch. There was a small Amarillo and Columbus addition at flame out, but was cut off in the screenshot. Oh, I attempted ba partial mash too. Forgot to transcribe notes to Brewers Friend so I'd have to dig up my notebook to know what temp.

Will an infected beer taste obviously infected?

I recently brewed a batch with WLP013 London Ale and it behaved similarly. It seems to taste okay, but has terrible head retention - so I wonder if whatever is affecting head retention also prevented the traditiona kreusen from rising?

How much of this is yeast...

Yeah, wasn't sure if it was left over from the initial brew I recovered the yeast from or not. But definitely wasn't that much left over in the initial mason jar, so must be yeast, right? Right? :-)

How much of this is yeast...

I'm gonna be that guy and ask you guys how much of this you think is yeast. I am usually pretty good at telling but this one has me a bit confused. WLP0013 London Ale - after a brew I decanted as much yeast slurry off of the trub as I could. Had it in my fridge for a few weeks, but it was going...

    Mrmalty - Flash Free Version?

Thanks for the reply! I'll check out that link or the Brewer's Friend/Brewfather's calculators.

    Mrmalty - Flash Free Version?

Is there a Flash Free Version of mrmalty out there? Since Flash is being phased out soon - has it been future-proofed? I thought at one point the Flash version had a link to a Flash-free version, but I can't seem to find it now (or perhaps it never existed...) Thanks!

How many gallons brewed in 2019!

    15 gal - Brown Ale (for a wedding) 3 gal - Amber Ale (made with leftovers) 7698 + 18 = 7716

    Removing bottom tip of airlock

Does anyone have a good method of removing the little plastic cross at the bottom tip of an airlock? I'm thinking about connecting a hose to one for blowoff, but worried that plastic part will clog.

    Blowoff Tubes and PET Carboys

I have a couple 5 gallon PET carboy's that I need to use for primary fermentation. The opening fits a #10 stopper, so the normal 1" diameter tubing I have is out of the question. I've seen some people using some smaller tubing right in in the stopper opening - is that really the best/only...

    First Brew Day

I used the "wet shirt" method my last batch and it worked well enough. Just wrapped the carboy with a wet t-shirt and set a fan to blow on it. Was enough to drop it a few degrees.

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

5 gallons of Belgian Stout. About to take a gravity measurement tonight actually.

    Neato bottle labels help

For your original attempt, it looks like maybe you needed to go into the printer settings and switch the orientation to "Landscape". The PDF might be off because sometimes they aren't exactly the same as the original source - there could be margins around the edges of the PDF so it shrinks...

    Efficiency/OG Mystery

    Thanks guys!

    Efficiency/OG Mystery

Mystery: Expected OG 1.089 but actual OG 1.054 I'm very much a newbie (this was my second batch) and I've looked up a bunch of reasons why measured and expected OG can differ but the difference seems extreme (to me) so I wanted to run it by the community to see how my process can be corrected...
