British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

Did a 10 gallon batch of this with White labs English ale yeast 2packs 1.4L starter...pitched at 65 up to 68 over 3 days. Wonderful beer...even my neighbors from the UK love it. Was hazy for about a week and the cleared up.

Weissbier Schneider & Sohn Original German Hefe Weizen Ale

if your doing a 5 gallon batch that sounds like you are not boiling enough mash I usually do about a 1/4 to 1/3 of the volume of my mash. I've read traditionally it's up to 1/3rd. I also make sure the first one is more grist than liquid. hope that helps.

Weissbier Schneider & Sohn Original German Hefe Weizen Ale

So two months ago I followed the multi step mash temps the with my RIMS system. I added two decoctions to get it from the first protein rest to the second and then to the second sacc. I am a firm believer in decoctions for German beer. note..I have always struggled to get my Hefeweizens...

    Question for Spike Unintank owners.

Thanks everyone for your input. It has been helpful. BLUF..if the spike owners are telling me they don't have to spend hours hand cleaning their tanks before the first use and only use a PBW wash with no "black lines' after...that's enough for me. I agree the current level of oils are not...

    Question for Spike Unintank owners.

I have cleaned the tank with PBW, both types of star stan, TSP and hand washed with a clean paper towel...and the line is still there after 10 batches. I doubt it makes a flavor difference. I just talked to a colleague of mine who has 2 ss unitanks too and says he has the exact same issue. I...

    Question for Spike Unintank owners.

I currently have a 14 gal ss unitank which overall has been a wonderful upgrade for me. My biggest complaint with the tank is the fact that I paid all that money for a tank that took hours to hand scrub with TSP to get the manufacturing oils "off". I still get a bit of a black line at the top...

What's your occupation: Engineer or Non-Engineer

Higher math always hurt my brain..Non-Engineer. I am General Surgeon...the hands-on and troubleshooting aspects with brewing really got me interested. Plus it allows me to be creative without serious repercussions if something doesn't work out.

Brewers Hardware BH15 system...anyone getting one?

I saw this and I am very impressed. I would hook my RIMS tube up to it. Has anyone else seen one yet or brewed with one? Or even interested like myself? https://www.brewershardware.com/The-BH15-Pilot-System.html

    Banana flavor

Not to get too off topic here, but 1/3 of total mash volume is the only way I've heard or done it myself. Does not have to be precise. Any pot will work, I would recommend a larger pot to keep the column of grains short and flat for equal heat distribution. Yes you have to stir regulalry to...

    Banana flavor

Yea I think they did a brulosophy test on it and said it didn't make much difference with respect to open fermentation. My hometown brewery, Troegs, swears by a true open fermentation and they do have a nice wheat. I might try it someday with a vessel that I'm not as scared of getting...

    Banana flavor

I'm on my fourth attempt at producing a true German sytle hefe. I just tasted the most recent batch and I'm almost there...so close. May need to let it clean up a bit more. I use white labs 300. Warm ferment at 73/74. Haven't tried open fermentation...to scared to infect my unitank. I...
