    Seltzer Water Questions

This is to follow-up on my own post quoted above. I finally used up the 10 pound bottle of carbon dioxide a week or so ago. The final tally was 502 one-liter bottles, so the actual cost was a tiny fraction under 8 cents per bottle. With a new bottle of gas I am reducing the pressure setting to...

    Cold brew coffee from scratch?

The bitterness does not seem to be a problem as it seems to be completely abolished by a squirt of stevia. I do dilute it - just with carbonated water instead of plain water.

    Cold brew coffee from scratch?

At least once, try it with carbonated water. if you do not make your own just use a bottled variety.

    Cold brew coffee from scratch?

About two weeks ago I had a chance to try a bottled cold brew coffee. It was very good, although I prefer my iced coffee black. But it was also rather expensive to purchase and while I could afford it if I wanted it, I'd rather make it myself. There appear to be a variety of "machines" out...

    Seltzer Water Questions

I can only give an incomplete answer. I have been using empties from 1 liter bottles of soda I bought at Walmart. I don't recall the brand. I have a set of 9 bottles and those have been used, so far, to make about 370 bottles of carbonated water - same pressure and I also squeeze them to get rid...

    Seltzer Water Questions

Exactly. And when the bubbles stop it means the water is saturated at the pressure selected.

    Seltzer Water Questions

This is in reply to Max Stout. What you describe seems identical to what I do with one exception. I keep the valve on the CO2 tank open while I shake the bottle. I continue that until the flow of CO2 into the water is more or less stopped by the water having reached saturation.

    Seltzer Water Questions

First, yes I realize this thread is nearly 6 months old, so I hope the originator might be still watching. I carbonate water one liter at a time. All I use is a 10 pound cylinder of carbon dioxide with the valve set at about 28 pounds, and a hose about 18 inches log to a cap that fits my...

    Cheaper CO2 attempts for sodastream

I make carbonated water in one-liter batches using a 10 pound CO2 cylinder, regulator, and a hose I obtained through Amazon that is specifically designed to attach the CO2 output to one-liter bottles. I set the regulator to 30 pounds. I chill the water such that it has some ice mixed in...

    flavoring ideas

Interesting. I have used cinnamon extract but not a stick.

Its the Worcestershire that gives it the spiciness. I have not yet tried both tomato juice and Worcestershire together but probably will.

    flavoring ideas

I was not offended. I just thought the comment would discourage others from replying. I was apparently wrong in that. I have never heard of Peychaud's but will look for it. For the tomato my recipe is about 50 percent tomato juice from a can and 50 percent carbonated water. With the...

    flavoring ideas

The fruit slices sound like a good idea. Do you get enough flavor intensity with the ginger or cinnamon? I have tried vanilla extra (about a half teaspoon in a 10 ounce glass, plus some sweetener, and find that quite good.

I regret your closing remark. I really hoped to get some suggestions but now that you have poisoned the well fewer people, if any, are likely to reply with any.

    flavoring ideas

Although I sometimes carbonate water with flavoring and sweetener I usually just carbonate water. Sometimes I drink that without anything added and sometimes I will mix the water with other things. I am curious if anyone else does this. If so, I am interested to know about unusual...

    calculation question re:yeast

Thanks for the answers. I am not trying to save money here. I carbonate my soft drinks from a 10 pound tank of gas. What I am doing with the information is simply calculating what the cost actually is for the yeast, so that can be compared to the cost for the gas. I get a tank filled for about...

    Soda carbing yeast

Thoughts that occurred to me on this: 1. Water too hot when yeast added - killed the yeast. 2. Fermenting beverage too cold. 3. Old yeast - dead. 4. Water used was heavily chlorinated - killed yeast. 5. Inadvertently used artificial sweetener. 6. Fermenting bottles not sealed.

    calculation question re:yeast

I'd like to calculate the actual cost of using yeast for carbonation. For that I have two questions. First, how many packages of yeast (or how much of any other source of yeast) are required for a, say, five gallon batch. Second, does anyone attempt to continuously culture, or otherwise extend...

    one variable at a time

The following should be taken as strictly my opinion. That said, I have extensive experience making carbonated drinks with the bubbles added from a CO2 tank, and almost none (since being a teen back in the 60s) using yeast. In experimenting with new (to you) flavors, I would highly recommend...

    Sparkling Juice

This is my approach also except I use 1 liter bottles. Very easy, no yeast taste, and extremely inexpensive except for the juice itself.
