    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Living on a boat, most of our brewing is very small batch. Started a gallon of apple cider and a gallon of cranberry cider two days ago and they're happily bubbling away. We'll rack in a few days and bottle and try to ignore them for a bit.....that never works, does it?

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Sitting here watching our first batch of Perry bubbling away. Really anxious to see how this turns out. We should rack over the weekend and do a batch of pumpkin cider, which is one of our favorites. We live on a rather small boat, so all our brewing tends to be in gallon batches of things...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Doing a Ginger Beer. Two days in a fermentation bottle, then bottle with a bit more sugar and drink in a few days. Not something one ages, but a wonderful bright fizzy drink for a hot August.

    100% Oat Beer

    100% Oat Beer

Did a test today and had a SG of 1.015 which gives us 4.59 ABV. The stuff is still fermenting slowly but steadily. We opened the bottle we had sealed yesterday with a bit of brown sugar and gave it a taste. It was VERY live, as one might expect, and I think the carbonation definitely helps...

    100% Oat Beer

To kick in on this thread, We've been trying a 100% oat beer experiment using some ideas we ran into from the reenactor community, working some "kitchen" small beer recipes from the 18th century (including ginger beer, which I HIGHLY recommend). We're trying a 1 gal experimental batch using...

    apple pumpkin cider?

It wound up beautifully. The Pumpkin Cider wound up being one of our favorites and we're looking forward to making an even larger batch now that the big orange things are once again at our local farmer's market. No additional enzymes appear to be needed. We simmered the must with the apple...

    apple pumpkin cider?

Okay, so we're in the knuckle busting midst of hand grating a 20# pumpkin (we live on a boat, so appliances are scarce) to see if we can pull this off. I'm planning on simmering the pumpkin in apple juice for about 20 min to help break it down and kill off any wild yeast, then adding enough...
