    Personal brewery apparel/gear

I'd be interested as well, with a little more info. Found your Facebook, but that didn't have much either.

New guy , cheap bottling options

Any homebrew shops in your area? Mine usually has cases of used bottles that still have the paper labels on them. You have to clean them thoroughly and remove labels and adhesive, but they are significantly cheaper. I've also seen people list FREE glass beer bottles on Craigslist and the like.

    BIAB & Steam Condenser

I use a steam slayer in my basement BIAB setup. I don't even have it hooked up during the mash. I recirculate and use the same TC port for the recirc that I use for the steam slayer. During the mash I have the lid on and don't notice any steam in my brew area. You definitely don't need to run...

    Guidance on first kegerator build

I went with bulkheads and haven't had any issues with them leaking, but that's definitely something you have to think about. At the end of the day it's all just personal preference. I obviously decided to go with them, but there's nothing wrong with running the line directly through the side...

    Guidance on first kegerator build

Yup! That's what I settled on after a few iterations. Works great, no complaints here.

    Guidance on first kegerator build

I use a common fridge/freezer combo for my kegerator. The temperature doesn't fluctuate enough to cause any issues with serving beer and it surely doesn't fluctuate enough to justify a dedicated fridge. I keep my kegs, store bought beer, and yeast all in my kegerator. Hops go in the freezer...

    Quick Disconnect for Stainless tubing

I used compression to camlock fittings from BrewHardware when I had an immersion chiller. I used a food grade garden hose, again with camlock fittings from BrewHardware, for the inlet and a length of 1/2" silicone hose for the outlet. I always save the first 10 gallons of hot water for...

who is brewing on turkey day?

I will be doing a partial brew day. I'm doing a kettle sour so it'll just be a mash and then a 5 min boil to sanitize and then I'll be free for the rest of the day. I'll pitch the lacto when the kettle gets down to 100* or so naturally. Saves me from having to wash the chiller.

Boil with Lid on or off

I boil with the lid on and a DIY steam slayer because I don't have any ventilation solutions in my basement where I brew. Works great and I can boil 7.5 gallons of wort with only 65% power with a 1650W element.

Closed loop transfer....conical to keg build question

When I built out my kit I actually went with the Bev Seal tubing because I liked it so much when I built my kegerator. That would be my suggestion, but you can go with any beverage safe tubing you desire. 2) You will want to fill the keg with counter pressure from your CO2 bottle if it's...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Warmer temperature does help with extraction, but so does the alcohol created by fermentation. I'm no scientist either, so I'm not sure how they differ beyond the amount of time needed. Maybe Janish's book will shed some light on that topic.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Unfortunately, as we sort of touched on earlier, (could've been in another thread) beer brewed with hops purchased at a homebrew shop will never match up with what some of these guys are making. We are simply brewing with inferior ingredients. The big boys get to pick the best of the best...

    Decisions on Glyco Chiller

I assumed they were the same, by looking at pictures, which is why I went with the Spike pump. It's $9 cheaper and I already had free shipping from Spike because of the other equipment I purchased. I already have it so I'm gonna give it a shot, but the size of it definitely gives me pause...

    My RO System

I have the same unit from BRS. I had an RO/DI unit from them years ago but sold it when I got out of the saltwater game. Went back to them once I got fed up with lugging gallons of distilled water home from the grocery store every brew day.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Heady is different from what most people associate as a NEIPA nowadays, if for no other reason than its firm bitterness. My wife and I go to Stowe every winter to go snowboarding, so I don't get to drink it regularly, but I have had it multiple times. There are small differences in the beer...

    Decisions on Glyco Chiller

I'm looking at the same two units myself. It'll be going in my basement, so I don't have to worry about the same temperature issues as you, but I'm having a hard time making a decision. I'll be chilling two CF10 conicals and after buying one of the pumps from Spike, I'll be buying some...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I am actually somewhere around 40/60 kettle/fementor additions. This seems to be working fine, but I don't mind tweaking the ratios depending on what hops I have on hand. I really like to open fresh bags of hops for dry hopping. I use both, depending on the recipe. As @marchuk96 mentioned...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I honestly can't calculate final potassium values, and I'm not interested in paying for testing at the moment. All I can calculate is what I'm adding. I started very low and have been making small adjustments each time I brew. I have a 5 stage RO filter with 2 RO cartridges, so I am using...

    Looking at kettles one question

I have had both and I prefer TC for everything. It's easier to remove and clean and it's also extremely versatile. At the end of the day it's all just personal preference.
