    Duplicate post, sorry.

    My Banana Melomel

Please do! I have 30lbs of really ripe bananas that I have to do SOMETHING with tonight! I was thinking about doing a bananaweizen and then a banana melomel for the long stretch.

    Companion Planting: Hops and Berries?

Thanks for the input all. Added a bunch of fresh compost today and will be planting the strawberries this weekend. Hopefully slugs won't be too much of an issue since they'll have to climb/cross over the railroad ties surrounding the bed and they tend to dislike rough surfaces. The ties are...

    Companion Planting: Hops and Berries?

My hop bed is in a prime location on the south side of the barn. I end up having to weed it all summer so was curious if I could plant strawberries throughout the beds as well. My hope is that the berries would act as a natural groundcover and choke out the weeds (or at least help) and I'd...

    Tomato Wine

Interesting. I've racked mine twice and it's crystal clear. I mean, beautiful... all sediment dropped out of suspension without me doing anything. How much sugar and salt did you use for your test portions?

    Tomato Wine

My garden had bushels of extra tomatoes this year and after packing the freezer and pantry full of sauce, frozen, diced, etc. I still had plenty for a big batch of tomato wine. This is my second wine ever, first was a tart cherry wine 8 years ago. Basically stuck to Yooper's recipe 5X. I know...

    Hop Twine

Okay, I went ahead and bought 9,000' of sisal baling twine from Farm & Fleet. $30. I'll probably run a double strand for each run. Any concerns about putting the two strands in the end of a power drill and twisting them together first? Would that sag worse later in the season?

    Drip irrigation system recomendations please

Bingo. A pump is just a bad idea with a rain barrel, you'll empty it/them in no time. When I was setting mine up my drip kit only came with 1gph and 2gph emitters. I realized that with 7 rhizomes I was going to empty my 55 gallon barrel in less than a day even with the 1gph emitters...

    How many shoots per twine

I've got first year plants... should I train all the bines onto the twines or still just 2-3 per twine and let the other ones run rampant at ground level? If the latter, the hopyard is up against the barn so I could probably get the extra bines to climb up the barn.

    Hop Twine

I too like the idea of being able to compost the used twine, if not after one year then eventually. Being as I live on a hobby farm I could use a big spool of that baling twine. Would the standard sisal stuff hold up or would I be better off going with the poly?

    Drip irrigation system recomendations please

Mine are drip irrigated for 8+ hours daily.

    Drip irrigation system recomendations please

Here's another vote for the KISS method. I would stress PIN-holes and no larger unless you need it. Fill em' up and see how well they water well before your trip so you know what's gonna happen. If you want to go a little nicer you could do what I did. $15 clearance drip kit from Menards...

    Miracle gro is amazing!

I dunno my man, I thought urine was sterile as well. However, several online sources I found made a point to mention that pathogens, diseases, and other mild toxins are minimal and neutralized within 24 hours of leaving the body. They said minimal, but they were still mentioned.

    Miracle gro is amazing!

Your local extension office should have soil testing kits. Usually the tests run about $20-25. Make your own compost, you'd be amazed at the amount of organic matter you throw away that could be made into wonderful compost for your hops or garden. I think its already been mentioned but...

Massive $6,000 commercial cooler... for FREE

I dropped off the face of the earth for a while. Sorry guys, haven't been on HBT or brewing much at all due to a series of personal crises. The cooler sat all winter with no change other than refreshing the pans of baking soda inside. I'd like to get a tech out within the month to asses and...

sigh - I have an investor - damn

You know guys... Grinder never mentioned anything about $250K for anything brewing related. Maybe the investor wants to start up a prostitution ring. Don't do it Grinder... keep that a hobby man, just keep it a hobby.

I want a huge AAA - think Gordon or Undercover

Had the Undercover last night for the first time and LOVED it. Probably for the exact reasons you're brewing this... "thick with lupulin, sugars, and booze." Definitely post how this turns out.
