    Post your infection

I had a big problem with contamination when I started brewing because my secondary was too big (6 gallon Bigmouth), the size of the air pocket inside was the issue. Someone pointed it out to me and since then, using a 5 gallon glass carboy, I haven't had any contamination in my secondary fermenter.

Brewed Gruit from a Northern Brewer kit and went to bottle it about 20 minutes ago and when I pulled off the cover I found this... They are round globules of whatever. Can I bottle this and how will it taste? I just realized those are the Cranberries.... I think I can siphon around those.

Why does Homebrew seem to get me so buzzed? :)

A good post is a good post, no matter how old. I notice the same medicinal effects drinking home brew. I brew "Chair Ales" like 10% Belgians and after one 20oz bottle I'm feeling the affects. I'm 300lbs (260 lbs of it muscle) and when I didn't know any better and drank crap beer I could...

    Growler Carbonating

I stopped conditioning in Growlers because they were always flat, I used metal caps and plastic caps with the same result. I did have a couple break on me but they were old and could have been weakened some how. I would love to condition in growlers again but don't want flat beer! I may have...

    Custom Belgian Ale just brewed

I don't brew an awful lot but I'm trying to improve on my bad habits. I keep coming back to the Belgian ales with a few changes my local brew shop owner recommends. The 3 extra lbs of DME are his idea but I decided to also add just over a pound of rock candy. It's a True Brew base. I usually...

Good new beer law in CT!

Interesting new law took affect this month in Connecticut concerning those wanting to sell their goods! • Farmers’ market beer sales — With respect to beer at farmers’ markets, the law establishes a farmers’ market beer permit allowing the holder to sell his or her wares at up to three...

    persistant contamination

Can I save this somehow? Siphon to another container and add a little sugar and some yeast? This has happened to me a lot with secondaries and I think I have too much air in this one also. I was concerned a few days ago when I saw condensation on the inside of the carboy. I'm done with secondaries.

It's hard to see the white crusty bubbles, after I see this the taste is bitter and bandaid tastes.

    no carbonation in growlers

I normally use the 22oz bottles but didn't have any for this batch. How do the Pro brewers get them to keep carbonation without them growler bombs?

    no carbonation in growlers

I have never had an issue with carbonation Bottles but when i bottle in growlers i more often get flat ale instead of carbonated ale. I like using growlers because they are easier to bottle but the often flat. I reuse Berkshire Brewing Company growlers with new metal, plastic or even the...

    Hello from CT

I've been brewing for a few years on and off but I want to kick it up a notch. I have had contamination issues lately but should have them resolved soon. Glad to be here!
