Beer doesn't seem to carb in corny kegs

I'm sure this has been posted a million times, so I apologize, but I do have some questions.. When I first started kegging, I used Sanke kegs provided to me by a local distributor. I never had a single issue with Sankes other then they are HARD to break into and clean. Recently I decided to...

    What happens to old grain?

I purchased 40 lbs of cracked grain back in June, but never got a chance to brew w/it due to a back injury. It's been sealed in a bag, but not vacuum sealed. It's not likely I'll brew with it anytime soon, so I was going to give it away. The only problem is how long I've had it. I read that 2...

Used primer and cement on drain manifold for mash tun. Is this a problem?

I put together a drain manifold out of CPVC for mash tun and had to glue it together because it wouldn't stay connected otherwise. You can see in the attached picture that I used purple primer to clean the pieces up a bit as well. I can't smell the primer, but I can still smell the cement if I...

Converting 70 quart Coleman Xtreme to Mash Tun

I know this has been done to death on here, but I wanted to double check before making any additional purchases. I plan on making manifolds from 1/2" CPVC for sparging and draining. I have a design in my head, but nothing more. I'll post pictures when I finish. My concern right now is how to...

Using a blender instead of a grain mill?

I'm about to try my 3rd version of an american IPA(brew in a bag) and I was wondering if running the grain through a blender would help in extracting more flavor/sugar outta the grain? I actually saw this done on an episode of 'moonshiners.' I've read a few conversations on this topic, but...

BrewersBest - American IPA(BIAB) How to reduce bitterness?

I brewed this up a little over a month ago and while I like it, I'd like to dial the bitterness down just a bit. Here are the hop additions: Hops: 1 oz. Simcoe - at the start 2 oz. Amarillo - w/15 min left and 10 min left. 1.5 oz. Cascade - for dry hopping. Recipe...

Cleaning tap lines after an infected batch of beer

Just wanted to run this by everyone to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Towards the end of my last batch, I noticed a band aide type of smell. The beer didn't taste weird, but the odor was definitely there. Band aide means an infection, right? So I emptied what was left in the sanke and...

    Dry yeast starter?

I’m about to brew a Beer in a Bag IPA and I was thinking about doing a yeast starter for it. First, when I look around for tips on starters, I see almost nothing on doing it for dry yeast. Is a starter a bad idea when using dry yeast? Anyways, I just wanted to run through the process to make...

Kettle value for 15.5 gal sanke

I'm just about ready to drill the hole in the side of my 15.5 gallon sanke keg for the kettle valve, but I just wanted to double check w/everyone on here... how high above the bottom of the keg should I be?

    blackberry wit... what to add??

I want to do a 5 gallon batch of blackberry wit from extract. So far, here's my recipe: 6lbs Wheat DME 1/2 lb Wheat, 1/2 lb Oats 1oz Golding Hops, 1oz Saaz Hops Wyeast 3944 Belgian Wit So now, the question is how much(and what) to add to the secondary. I've been reading posts on...

    Banana beer.. biggest cause?

just brewed two batches: Belgian Wit & Brown Ale. Both have banana taste. My basement stays very consistently at 64 degrees. The temp of the wit spiked up to 75 degrees on the 2nd day, so I kinda thought it might turn out this way, but the brown ale only reached a temp of 69 before I cooled...

Questions on filling/carbonating a Sanke keg

I just purchased a couple of used Sanke kegs for homebrewing. Mostly because we have a distributor up the road and they sold them to me for $30 a piece. Anyways, I got them apart and cleaned them. I have them both filled and put back together and cooling down in the fridge. My next step is...

    Anyone here use mini-kegs?

I'm still looking for a way to get into kegging, and mini-kegs caught my eye. http://www.homebrewohio.com/pd-5-liter-mini-keg-with-tap.cfm You can purchase a decent tap and some CO2 cartridges that look like what you might put into a pellet gun. The reviews are pretty good, but how...

    Are most kegs universal?

I'm looking to start kegging my beer and so far, this is one of the cheapest options I've seen. But are these kegs pretty universal? Will I be sorry after I buy a pair of them...

Move from extract to all-grain brewing

Not sure that this forum is the right place for this thread, but I'm still very much a noob so... I've done three batches of beer from Brewer's Best extract kits: Nut Brown Ale, Witbier & Oatmeal stout. All three batches turned out great! I have no problem with these kits other than it'd...

Bottled two weeks ago and beer is flat?!?!

I just cracked a bottle of my nut brown ale and there's virtually no carbonation. There was a 'hiss' when I opened it, but no bubbles and no head. I followed the directions and that I know of didn't make a mistake. Do I need to wait longer on this batch? I will say, the beer does taste fine to...

Brewing my 2nd batch tomorrow - Witbier this time.. just a couple of questions.

My first batch was a nut brown ale. I bottled it on Monday and actually tasted it that day as well and it seemed good. Looking forward to trying one in a week or two! First question: I've been trying to read as many posts on here as I can, and I'm still up in the air on this one. After I...

Can I brew 1 gallon of beer in 5 gallon equipment?

Sorry if this has already been discussed.. maybe I'm not searching it correctly, but everything I own is for brewing 5 gallons at a time. Can I buy a 1-gallon kit and brew if properly in the equipment I own? I'm not so much concerned about the steeping/boiling process, but is there an issues...

    First brews tomorrow... tips/advice??

I was about to brew my first batch two days ago when I found that my kit did not contain Columbus hops. Stopped by the local supplier and he hooked me up, so I'm ready to go. I read articles and watched some youtube videos... although most videos skip quite a bit. The keys seem to be to...

Nut brown ale - No Columbus hops included!!

I was just about to get started brewing my first batch of beer when I noticed that the columbus hops packet was not included in my nut brown ale from brewers best. Can I brew this w/out the columbus hops, or will it ruin everything? It is the first packet of hops you need to put in. Thanks!
