    What's your user name mean?

Misha is a Russian nickname for Michael, had to add dude since I know several people who named their female dogs misha.

    Attention GA homebrewers!!

I've been visiting Poplar Creek Brewing in Martinez/Augusta. It's local and has all the basics. They're fairly new and the owner is deployed in the military so some items are hit or miss. The only thing I haven't been able to buy there over the last three brews was some acid malt for a saison I...

Weissbier Bee Cave Brewery Bavarian Hefeweizen

Man this beer turned out good. I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference in a blind test against Fraziskaner. It's definitely on my list for brewing again.

    Saison Shipwrecked Saison

I'm saving this one for a future brew, looks too good to pass up.

    BIAB question

I do use it for 5 gal batches and it's a pretty close fit for higher og batches. I've had to do 1-1.5 gal sparges 1.056 and above, which still isn't a very big beer. But, having to sparge kinda defeats the purpose of biab. I'm in the market for a bigger kettle, but will keep brewing until I get one.

    BIAB question

Or more since biab is usually a full volume mash. Higher gravity recipes you'll probably need more than 7 since you'll have more grain which will absorb more water. I have a 9 gal kettle and have been pushed to the rim on a couple brews.

DIY Carboy Hauler For Men Afraid To Sew

Nice video and write up. I'll be blowing the dust off the boss's stitch-erator for this one.

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

5 gal of Edwort's Bee Cave hefeweizen. One week in and there's no sign of the krausen ever dropping. Smells great!

    Murphy brew

Looks like it's going to make it. WL300 yeast took off like crazy. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Weissbier Bee Cave Brewery Bavarian Hefeweizen

Just pitched the yeast for my first batch of this after a brewday where everything seemed to go wrong. Hopefully I'll add a pic in a few weeks.

    Murphy brew

It might just work out. I used my wife's candy thermometer when heating my mash temp back up. After the boil my og was right on at 1.052. If it ferments well I might have to do this every time. The thermometer seems to be a lost cause. It starts out reading right, but keeps gaining temperature...

    The "Dear" , "Sincerely" thread

Dear makers of uncalibrated thermometers, You suck, my ice water isn't 77 degrees, and my body temp isn't 128. Sincerely, Don't ask where I put the probe.

    Murphy brew

Sweet, thanks for the reassurance. I guess as long as I don't drop a carboy on my foot and end up in the er, tonight might not be a failure.

    Thermometer

I just had the same problem with a digital Taylor. Seemed to start out fine, but was way off at the end of heating my strike water. It read 75 in a cup of ice water. Frustrating since it looks like I mashed at 110 or so. I'll be looking for a new one very soon.

    Murphy brew

If it can go wrong it did! I'm brewing up a hefeweizen tonight and so far I've managed to overfill my kettle, creating sticky mess on the garage floor when I added my grains. Next up is a thermometer that looks to be reading 30 degrees high. After an hour mash the wort was looking very pale...

DIY Kettle - Part list for spigot and thermometer

I'm pretty new, but have been looking at kettles quite a bit. Since you said you have a wort chiller, you'll probably want the 2"probe our you might have problems putting your chiller in.

    1st BIAB brew in fermenter

Looks like my thermometer let me down. My beer had been in the primary for two weeks and it's only down to 1.032. Must have overshot temps and got a lot of unfermentables. I swirled my carboy a couple times and even pitched a second pack of US05. Oh well, it's now a good tasting session brew.
