20 gallon SS Brewtech Infussion mash tun

Sorry to hear about your issues with the SS Brewtech mash tun. Before reading this thread, I'd always assumed that they had all their kinks worked out. But it sounds like they still have a ways to go. I've seen the Brewtech mash tuns before, but I've never actually used one myself. I don't...

FYI : concord kettles are not 18/8 stainless

Sorry, we aren't manufacturers. We contract a factory to produce them for us. The reason I say we are manufacturers is because we design the products with the factory, we go over the manufacturing process with them, and we handle quality control in person. I'm personally going to be at the...

FYI : concord kettles are not 18/8 stainless

Hold up. Why are we even talking about 201? I didn't look at this carefully before, but the chemical composition in the original post is not even close to 201. As far as I can tell, that's grade J4. See here. Concord ----- J4 NI - 1.1 ---- 0.8/1.2 MN - 10 ----- 8.5/10.0 CR - 13...

FYI : concord kettles are not 18/8 stainless

As a manufacturer of stainless steel brewing vessels, I think I can add some insight here. First of all as a disclaimer, we use 201 grade stainless steel. Take that for what you will. 201 stainless steel functions much the same as 304 for homebrewing applications. Pretty much the entire hotel...

Kickstarter for SS Mash Tun, Kettle and Fermenter

Yes, this is exactly what's going on. I just met with the manufacturer a few weeks ago, went over some minor changes, and have put in an order. Production and freight takes time so April is still the expected arrival date, but there's a small chance we could be pushed into May if there are...

Kickstarter for SS Mash Tun, Kettle and Fermenter

We don't have a plan for selling the refurbished or cosmetically flawed equipment yet. I imagine we will either sell them in person at a warehouse sale or put them up for auction on ebay. I'm pretty busy at this point, so it will probably be a few months before that happens.

    Chapman ThermoBarrel Reviews

Now that we've sent out all the Kickstarter rewards and extra parts I'm curious about people's experiences with the dip tube seal. I haven't received much feedback about the seal on the dip tube after we sent out recommendations and an o-ring to use optionally if the other suggestions didn't...

Kickstarter for SS Mash Tun, Kettle and Fermenter

I received the kettle that was returned by drgonzo2k2 last week and have cleaned removed the oxidation with Bar Keepers Friend. I've also found that one of the kettles we test brewed with developed similar discoloration as the pot chewse posted. That also can be cleaned up with BKF. Here are...

I guess it can't hurt to get testing done just to be sure. I haven't seen anything that would suggest we received a type of stainless steel any different than what we expected. Also, the problems are still pretty rare. (All the issues with discoloration have been posted in this thread.) But...

Kickstarter for SS Mash Tun, Kettle and Fermenter

It has not been tested in the US. It's 201 type stainless steel which is 18/4/6 compared to 304 which is 18/8/2 for chromium/nickel/manganese content. Welding will remove the passivated layer regardless of which type of stainless steel it is. I'm not sure what we would learn from testing it...

If it were due to the type of metal, every piece would have an issue, and the oxidation would cover the piece in a uniform manner. This is happening occasionally and only in specific areas, which clearly indicates an issue with passivation.

As I've said before, Chapman Brewing Equipment is a no BS company. And to keep true to my word. Here is a comprehensive list of all the problems we have encountered so far: Delays in shipping Fermenter volume markings off No logos Dip tube not sealing properly Straight threaded nipple sent...

Kickstarter for SS Mash Tun, Kettle and Fermenter

I just wrote drgonzo2k2 an email offering to replace the kettle, but these pictures are unsettling. The equipment wasn't pickled or passivated and is therefore leaving these rust/oxidation/discoloration spots. I was expecting that there might be one or two issues with equipment that wasn't...

Kickstarter for SS Mash Tun, Kettle and Fermenter

Oh, a debate! This looks like fun. :) In all seriousness, I'm glad someone finally brought this up on HBT. Using 201 type stainless steel was something we put a lot of research into, and we took our time making the decision to use it. In general, Joe_CraftBeerTraders demonstrates a good...

Kickstarter for SS Mash Tun, Kettle and Fermenter

Shortly after the Kickstarter campaign, we started running into problems. And it became clear we had to make a decision. Either work out every single detail along the way and be a few months late or steam right ahead and send out a flawed product early. We decided that no matter how much...

Kickstarter for SS Mash Tun, Kettle and Fermenter

Sorry I've missed responding to this thread over the last week. We've been rushing to get things done in a timely manner. We are about 80% complete with shipping out rewards and will be finishing up sending out equipment as soon as we can. In the meantime, we've encountered a few problems which...

Kickstarter for SS Mash Tun, Kettle and Fermenter

We will have them corrected in the future. The speed at which we sell the first round of fermenters will determine exactly when the second round of production will be on its way. I imagine that will be 6 months to a year from now. A quick update: There is only one week left for the...

Kickstarter for SS Mash Tun, Kettle and Fermenter

I'm glad to see that there is a conversation going on about this inaccuracy of the fermenter measurements. And I agree, this does seem pretty lame. So I want to explain more of the process and why we made the decision we did. Before I get into that, I want to remind all of our Kickstarter...
