Blow tie vs inline regulator for spunding

Hello, Have tried to search to no avail so hoping this crew can help. I picked up a couple of the white kegland style regulators for spunding but just heard somewhere these should not be used for spunding. Is there a difference betweenthewhite and red regulators? Spring pressure? Thanks!

    Glycol for refrigerator cabinet?

So this is a different kind of glycol question. Instead of wanting to cool glycol in a fridge, I have an aquarium chiller which will run my glycol ferm system. Rather than run another condensing unit for a fridge, I was thinking of running glycol through a fancoil inside to cool the cabinet...

    Possible coolbot alternative for $35

The link doesn't work for me. You want to match a contactor coil voltage to what you have available. You can also get a contactor with a low voltage coil (12/24v) if you have a power supply or adapter and still switch your line voltage to the compressor. How much current does your AC draw...

    Possible coolbot alternative for $35

You have to control frosting of the coils somehow. Using a 2nd tstat to defrost is the easiest way IMO.

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

Tried it in an IPA and was great. 2/3 pack into 5g, fermented @85F. Fyi, Pitched the other 1/3 into Munich Helles and fermented @around 82F. Beer is clear and malty but has too many esters for the style. That little "twang" is not complimentary to that beer. Just wanted to play with the yeast.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Thanks stickyfinger, I was reading too much into it I guess. Have yet to ferment in a corny. I used to put a hop bag around the transfer tubing and purge CO2 while filling kegs. Having experienced the devastating, complete loss of aroma in as little as 2 weeks, I'm adopting the methods...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Some pages back someone mentioned transferring without the poppets in the fittings but that proccess was not detailed. Do you use a valve on the transfer line to prevent flow until ready to rack? No poppets means an open keg so I'd like to learn more about this. My several attempts at...

    Possible coolbot alternative for $35

We find that with fresh meat (deer, hogs), obviously there's a lot of moisture introduced. A desiccant dryer or electronic dehumidifier works great to help remove moisture and allow the unit to spend more time cooling than defrosting. With beer, you should only be up against the moisture from...

Jako, keg was clean and dry. All hoses clean and flushed.

    Rubbery substance in fermenter

Thanks all. No protein rest. Mashed at 154. Its AG, only 2 row and honey malt. Bucket fermenter was clean and sanitized before hand. Slight whirlpool hop addition at around 140. Great fermentation, aroma and taste. The chunks could be crumbled in my hand, and only smelled like the beer. Beer God...

No but it sure looks like gelatin

    Rubbery substance in fermenter

Brewed a pale with honey malt, S-04, and amylase enzymes to dry it a bit. Just racked to keg and when cleaning the fermenter found these rubbery, light brown chunks maybe 1-2" long. They're like firm seaweed or maybe a soft succulent plant stiffness. I have never seen these before. The only new...

    DIY Stainless Steel Fermenters

What do you dilute silicone caulk with? I have wanted to try molding of some parts and inject with caulk but it's always too thick.

Specialty Fruit Beer Chocolate Cherry Stout

Brewed this 1/27/19 and used 6oz Hershey's dark cocoa powder at 5 min rather than in the mash. Fermentation stalled at 1.040 after around 4 days. Pitched an old Us-05 cake and kept temp at 64-68. I added 3- 32oz bottles of cherry juice- 2 tart and 1 black cherry (could not find concentrated at...

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

Omarke, nice work though looks dangerously top heavy and tip prone. Hopefully a safety cable ties it off when in use. How does the aquarium pump hold up to the heat? I have several but didn't think they could tolerate brewing temperatures.

What came in the mail for you today?

Saturdays mail brought me a bunch of hop goodness. Used my More Beer credit plus their 10% sale and trying some new hops. 1 pound each of HBC342, Meridian, and Helga, plus a pound of Citra, and jumping on the wagon to try Kviek yeast. Brewed a chocolate cherry stout and a NEIPA yesterday...
