I LOVE waking up to hot strike water. Easy as 1-2-3.

The last time I did a 10 gal batch, it took almost 2 hours to get 14 gal of strike water to 170 with a propane burner. I know I can improve this with a few tweeks. So I purchased one of these for $12.99, I figure I can place it in my pot a few hours before, and atleast have some pretty warm...

Top 5 things I wish I knew when I first started homebrewing.

Excellent information, especially for a newbie like me. I am still fly sparging, second batch this past weekend, but I may have to give batch sparging a try. Fly sparging just seems much easier? For me anyway.

    Raising Chickens

Your place sounds cool. In the 80's when I lived in Troy, we use to take a boat down to the Detroit river and cruise it all the time. We actually launched in a bad part of town (Not far from the use to be Rennaisance Center), but there were plenty of beautiful areas along the river, would be...

    Wife sabotaged beers

The next time you brew, just tell her it's your own recipe and your naming it after her. Something like, Betties Big Butt Brew, Debbies Flower Child Menagerie, Karens Krazy Pedal Pint. She would appreciate you bringing her into your hobby.

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

My simple system, nothing like some of the true master pieces being posted, but hopefully it should work. I picked the table up for $20 in a auction, it used to be a check out counter at a beauty shop, it is built like a tank with a granite top. I welded up some racks for the Blichman floor...

Man driven to suicide by ex wife and divorce courts

I had a friend do this same thing, taking your own life is not the answer, but depression is a terrible thing. His wife left him for someone else, kept the house, the kids, and he couldn't afford to hire a lawyer to fight the courts, so they drug him through the ringer. He finally had enough...

    Outdoor Slop Sink

Great idea! I am in the process of putting a old utility sink in my front porch. But I will just have it drain outside in the garden. with out a trap, so I can use it in the winter too. You probably don't have to worry about that in Texas.:mug:

    Raising Chickens

I have 13 chickens, and a Guinea hen. I built a coop last year about this time, raised the birds from chicks, and all my birds lasted this past winter with no artificial heat, and they are all doing fine. I ended up getting one of those plastic sheds at Menards, building a platform off the...

Thank you everyone for the replies, all great info. obviously I am a newb.:mug: What is the best method in mounting a element through the kettle? Or would a heatstick be enough to heat the HLT to 170*? I did some searching, and did find a few home made heat stick applications.
