Got a great deal on a brew sculpture... old HERMS system but I have process questions

Hello, I have a single tier electric herms set up with keggles and I do 10 gallon batches. So my heat loss and process should be similar. I brew in a temperature controlled room between 65-75 degrees. I use beersmith to estimate my initial mash in temperature. I have wrapped my MLT in...

Tv is on the wall. I plan on building a custom mount for the keyboard and monitor soon.

    Conical Fermenter - Advise needed

Thank you for the help. I dry hopped 4 oz at day 8 of fermentation. Final gravity was already reached at that point. (Next time I will dry hop with a few points to go.) The yeast finished out in about 7 days, i think. With a diacetyl rest this yeast should be brought up to around 70f...

Show me your brew room computer setup!

Currently I have a 60" tv and a 24" monitor that I have connected to an old desktop PC. I use a Logitech keyboard with the track pad built in to adjust my brewery while at the brew rig or on the couch. I want to mount the tv and monitor on wall in the future. I also think it would be nice to...

    Conical Fermenter - Advise needed

"Ales produced with this strain tend to be fruity, increasingly so with higher fermentation temperatures of 70-74°F (21-23° C)" -Wyeast Website I am going for a nice fruity taste in the IPA hopefully. Should I keep it below 70º F next time? Also, I have read that a lot of people using...

    Conical Fermenter - Advise needed

I am fermenting my first batch in my new 14 gallon SS brew tech conical fermenter. I have been trying to research best practices for when to dump trub, when to best dump yeast, when to cold crash, and when to add dry hops. Can anyone with experience help spell it out for me what is good...

    MT Help Needed

I used a 10 gallon round cooler for a year or so. My first brew warped the inside of the cooler, but this didn't change anything other than capacity. After several brews my O-ring seals started to leak around the ball valve, which really sucks when your mash tun is full. I got a keg turned...

    Imperial Organic Yeast

I've used three cans of theirs in the last couple weeks and I am starting to prefer these over the competitors. It is nice to pitch these into beer without a yeast starter for only a couple extra bucks. Steinbart's (LHBS) here in Portland claimed that Imperial recommended to use only one can...

Hops Harvested too Late to use?

Thank you very much for the help. I went ahead and used as many of the hops as I felt comfortable. I picked out the cones that were a bit too brown and used the rest. I didn't get any onion/garlic aroma, so I think they should be okay. I brewed a strong IPA with Chinook, Cascade, and Mt Hood...

Hops Harvested too Late to use?

I have several plants in their second year but didn't get a huge amount of hops. So I didn't want to worry about drying them and has planned to do a couple big wet hop brews. But I didn't get time and now the hops have are a yellow/green color and I am not sure if I can still use them...

Full Pint malt from Great Western/Imperial Organic Yeast Co.

I decided to do a 10 gallon batch of a Belgian Pale Ale and split the batch with two yeasts from Imperial Organic Yeast, their Workhorse and Rustic. I can't wait to taste the differences. I contacted Imperial Organic Yeast about pitching temperature and this is what they said... "We dont...

Full Pint malt from Great Western/Imperial Organic Yeast Co.

I was trying to figure out what they meant by writing "open cold." I'm still not clear on what they suggest. If you open the yeast when cold, it will not be at the correct temperature to pitch. And if you open cold and then let sit to warm up, you give opportunity for contamination with the...

Full Pint malt from Great Western/Imperial Organic Yeast Co.

I'm betting you shop at F.H. Steinbart. Today picked up some Imperial Organic Yeast B51 workhorse to try out in my Belgian Pale ale. With 200 billion yeast cells I wont have to do a yeast starter. The Imperial Yeast costs a couple dollars more at $10 (although cheaper per amount of yeast)...

Found yeast packet in garage.....use it?

I wouldn't even consider it. Yeast is cheap, relative to the many hours it takes to brew.

Where did you get your HERMS coil?

I am very happy with my 1/2" x 50' coil from stainless brewing.

    Keezer wiring problem

You will have current at your hot lead wire, even though it is not a closed circuit. If the wires are not exposed and cannot come into contact with liquid or a ground, it will be fine to leave them as is. I'm not electrical engineer, just my 2 cents. - Craig

    Sanitizing campden for top-off water

You could sanitize your tools with an open flame. I use my gas stove to sanitize my aluminum foil that I cap off my yeast starter. You could torch your utilizes a few seconds and then let them cool for a couple minutes and you should be good to go eh!

CDA - Thoughts on Recipe Creation

I've brewed the second rendition of my recipe and it was one of worst brew days I've experienced. I have a stainless 400 micron hope spider type basket that I've always used with my eherms system in my whirlpooled keggle. With recommendation from this thread, I decided to up the hops. To...

Raspberry Pi - Screen still goes Blank (Help)

Thank you for the input. My only experience with the Pi and code is with this Raspberry Pints. Now I have had a huge learning curve and have had to redo my Pi like 5-10 times, but I still don't know much at all. I decided to reformat the card and start from an older version of noobs, which I...
