BYO Digital subscription? Where be all the articles n' stuff??

I'm getting stonewalled on canceling the balance of my digital "subscription." Not certain who made the decision to eliminate the electronic version of the magazine, but as Pappy used to say, they're about dumb as a post. I typically read magazines while on transcontinental flights and...

Show me your diy vent hood.

Uglier'n sin, but works like a champ over a Blichmann BrewEasy! M

BC, While not directed to me I can speak to your question. I converted a 10-gallon gas fired BrewEasy with full Tower-of-Power to electric so I could brew indoors. I found the gas BrewEasy to heat faster with shorter intervals between steps while mashing and the mash tun itself to better hold...

Kurt, great information on how you are utilizing Blichmann's equipment. I have done two 10-gallon batches now mashing with the RIMS-Rocket and noticed a definite improvement. Still seeing some lag in step mashes. More than cut the step time in half by doubling the rice hulls and circulation...

    Blichmann BrewEasy

Yeah, doesn't sound good. Let us know how it goes. I have never had to reach out directly to Blichmann (have always dealt with the shop where I purchased the item), however in my experience Blichmann has always been responsive and stood behind their product. They ARE human... it took 3 try's to...

    Blichmann BrewEasy

Thanks Kurt. Rather than guess with the various instructions out there, I took my guy card in hand and asked for directions... Wes promises me I am OK though, because the nature of my questions were technical. Kudos to Great Fermentations for their outstanding customer service. At Wes's...

That doesn't sound right. Mine was pretty sensitive to adjustment. Sorry, M

Kurt, Fabrizio, Is there a lock function that needs to be turned off on the PID? Even if I hold the enter key for more than 3 seconds, I am not getting into the menus... Thanks! Mike PS Fabrizio, not sure on the range of adjustment for the Brewmometer, however I have found them to be pretty...

Thanks Kurt! I both forgot and then missed you had posted that earlier. RIMS Rocket is mounted. Hoping to run some tests this weekend. Mike

Kurt, Can you share the steps (or a link) on how you retune the TOP controller? Thanks and good luck with the brewery! Mike

Motorized Grain Mills: Time to show them off!

Grinding a flat on the shaft would be simpler and easy to do... M

Motorized Grain Mills: Time to show them off!

Cool idea, but I'm not sure the gamma lid could handle the weight/stress over time. Also, U.S. Plastics has 10-gallon buckets for less than $10. M

Yes. I have a mix of quick disconnects and TC's on my rig as well, but left the Blichmann threaded fitting on the Autosparge. Simple process to heat the entire volume of water in the boil kettle to strike temperature, replace the drain with the line normally going to the Autosparge, turn the...

Rice hulls are your friend... :) Last couple of batches, I have done a reverse dough-in, layering rice hulls and crushed grain in a dry mash tun and pumping water from underneath the false bottom. Not sure it does much, but it is a lot easier to stir the mash initially and I don't seem to get...

If you don't want to DIY'it, I have been happy with Stout's SPOX: http://conical-fermenter.com/SPOX-Oxygenation-Aeration-Assembly.html I put a second tee on the other end with a Blichmann Brewmometer and used some 1-1/2" SS clamp mounts to attach it all to the wall behind my BrewEasy. Looks...

Buy in bulk. Usually wait for a coupon or deal to roll around and pick-up one of the 8# jars. Nice job on the O2 system as well. M

Like the pressure cooker idea. Things that make you go hmmm... http://www.cancooker.com/cancooker-original/ Enlarging that vent hole would be easy enough. 1/4" weld less fitting with a bit of SS tubing? Could even retain the cooker for its original purpose if done right. I am thinking this...

    Blichmann BrewEasy

Good point. Why not vent it w/ a piece of SS tubing? High enough, heavy/strong enough and shaped correctly it could also act as a handle to lift once the mash tun was removed... Removable top or a second line and you could use water as weight as well - would take longer to heat, but then again...
