Good place to get beer gas in Raleigh/Durham?

I also live in Raleigh. I'm thinking of getting a new tank for xmas. Did you guys ever find a place that fills tanks locally or should I deal with the weight/rust and buy a steel tank? Is a 20 cu ft tank enough? Any other considerations that you didn't think of that you wish you had?

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

I agree. Something to keep in mind for people who are trying this out for the first time. When re-hydrating yeast I usually do this so that the starter liquid maintains its temperature longer. Aside from thermal shock this is another benefit of the double boiler method. I tried it again...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

Yes I was very careful to stir the powder into the water initially and there were no cracks up until that point. Only after heating the jar did I hear a distinct crack. I picked up the jar to test it, and it didn't drop out. Then later (presumably after it got hotter?) the bottom dropped out. I...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

So I tried this for the first time last night and was unsuccessful. Just when I was about to put the parts in the Lye solution the bottom of the Jar broke off. It looks like it was a clean break at the part where the bottom meets the sides. Has anyone had this issue? I'm using Ball jars...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

Thanks for your quick reply Lee. Why did you choose to omit the bonnet and body but not the external flow control lever? Did any of the parts you treated show any signs of discoloration compared to the non-treated parts? Thanks, John

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

This is a great thread. Thanks for all your work guys. I noticed this on my 650SS's a few months ago after letting star san sit in them. I have had star san smell like that once before, I believe it was when my water softener needed more salt, or perhaps it was just really old star san, I...

    New Williams O2 regulator

Wow, impressive work! I am surprised the DO levels between White's book and your measurements are so far off. It'd be good to find out what kind of flow rate you're using as compared to what you're setting. It might be useful to get a table of measured flow rate vs. flow rate setting. Also, a...

    Here's a useful thread: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f163/wort-aeration-372890/

    New Williams O2 regulator

What is your flow rate when you do 3 min? What ppm number are you targeting? 8, 10,... 15? When you do the starter, do you then forgo the stir plate? I'm very interested to see what kind of flow you're actually getting and even what kind of DO levels you're getting with your setup...

    New Williams O2 regulator

Yeh I hear you on predictability. It's good to know how accurate it is though. When I get mine (assuming I can get it hooked up right) I'd like to measure the flow using a water displacement or balloon circumference method. Who knows if that'll actually happen though. About bubbles at the...

    Cold Crashing and Bottle Carbonation

I'm thinking about cold crashing my American Pale Ale this week and I bottle condition. I'm wondering if you still get good results with the method you outlined above? I'm not sure about cold crashing because I've had brews with zero carbonation before for other reasons and it's no fun drinking...

    New Williams O2 regulator

Thanks for the pictures. That's very helpful. I noticed that the in and out terminals are close together in your model. They are at opposite ends of the meter in the pictures I've seen. If you have a way of figuring out what fittings you got, that might be useful. Any idea if the flow...

    New Williams O2 regulator

I didn't see the pic you had of your setup on the first page of this thread until now. Good one! It's not clear to me what the connections to the LZQ meter are. Do you have the 8mm barb fittings on the LZQ-7 or did you remove them and add your own? I'm worried that doing this will change the...

    New Williams O2 regulator

It looks like BigScience and Veedo got an LZQ-7 flowmeter for measuring flow. From earlier posts, it looks like BigScience uses it for the disposable tanks. I'm not sure of his success with it. It would be nice if we could hear an update on that. Anyone out there used the LZQ-7 with a...

I'm definitely interested. I'll send you a message. How do you measure the flow of oxygen?

    Calculating Boil Off Rate

This equation that was posted a ways back: h=231*V/(pi*r^2) starts to lose accuracy as you get more water in the kettle for kettles that taper outwards. I noticed this while making my mash paddle ruler tonight. It may be better to measure using water.

    New Williams O2 regulator

I bought an LQZ-7 for $10 shipped from Alibaba. I wonder how difficult it will be to connect it to the hoses that come with the oxygenation kits. The barbs on the LZQ-7's are 8mm (~1/4" ID tubing, I am guessing) whereas the tubing that comes with the kits is ~3/4" ID. Anyone out there try theirs...

    New Williams O2 regulator

Maxstout, I noticed you're in Minneapolis? I live in Inver Grove. Are you actually using a flowmeter? How much did your oxygen tank and flow meter cost ? I've heard that the amount of oxygen used (if properly metered) is so low that the cost per beer is small. How fast were you going through...
