    10 gallons

    So my friend and I are doing our first 10 gallon batch and I have a couple questions. What is a common pre boil volume and I want to use safale05 would I use 2 packets? I want to do a yeast starter from a American ale strain I harvested from my last batch but my stir plate isn't working.

    Yeast harvesting

    So I'm going to transfer my sierra Nevada american pale ale clone to the secondary vessel. I've heard of people harvesting from the primary fermenter and some people doing from the secondary. What is best? Thanks
