Belgian Blond Ale SWMBO Slayer - Belgian Blonde

Just brewed this, unfortunately my LHBS isn't very good and didn't have caravienne or caramel 10 so I just used 0.5lb of caramel 20. Also used briess pale ale malt since I have a bag of that, guess my beer will be a little darker than the original. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

Just found this thread. Cooked a brisket on the drum yesterday. First attempt at hot and fast brisket, never going back to the low and slow 16 hour cooks again. Method was brisket on smoker at 325-350 until flat hit about 170, then foiled with a little water until it probed like butter which was...

    WSM, Brinkmann or electric?

Never have used a WSM or Brinkman so I can't comment on them specifically. I can say that I have been using my drum smoker for about 5 years now and love it, total cost was about $100 in parts and an afternoon's time. Mine will hold 225 for 16 hours no problem. Check out ...

Historical Beer: Kentucky Common "Kiss Yer Cousin" Rye Kentucky Common Ale

I entered this in the Bluegrass Cup in Lexington KY, was my first time entering a competition. I entered in category 23, didn't win or place top three (didn't expect to lol), still waiting on the score sheet but I do know that it was scored a 32 which I think I'm happy with considering it was...

Historical Beer: Kentucky Common "Kiss Yer Cousin" Rye Kentucky Common Ale

Just had my second bottle of this, it is awesome! From grain to glass in 4 weeks and it is already great, hopefully there will be a couple bottles left in a month or so to see how it is then. I used WLP001, cleared very nicely, bottled after 2.5 weeks in the fermenter. Definitely on my rebrew...

    2014 Hop garden photo thread

RE hops being poisonous to dogs. I am a veterinarian and homebrewer so this topic is quite interesting to me. Some dogs will experience a very severe reaction to consuming hops, the reaction is called Malignant Hyperthermia or Malignant Hyperthermia like reaction, this condition if untreated is...

Ordinary Bitter Ol' Bitter Bastard (2013 NHC Gold medal)

Been drinking my batch for about a week now, it's one of the best beers I've had in a long time. It's a little dry on the finish, I'm guessing this is due to using S-04 yeast. Already planning on brewing this again with the 1469 next time. Thanks again for the awesome recipe!

First All Grain Brew - Check My Plan

What is your intended volume into your fermenter? If you are shooting for 5-5.5 gallons you may need a little bigger boil than 6.5 gallons to account for shrinkage and hop trub left at the bottom of your boil kettle.

Ordinary Bitter Ol' Bitter Bastard (2013 NHC Gold medal)

Bottled mine a couple days ago. Sample was awesome even uncarbonated and at room temp. Now just trying to have patience while it carbonates.
