1st hops grow in the Midwest

Hello everyone. I have gardening experience, but this will be my first attempt at growing hops. I have heard a lot about Cascade - Field Grade hops, is this a good choice for a beginner? It will be used for an all grain brew. I am also open to suggestions as to what grain I should grow as...

New equipment for doing multiple batches

Oh why not? I thought its best to do a secondary to ensure the sediment won't end up in the beer? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

New equipment for doing multiple batches

So if I get 4 two gallon jugs with airlocks that would allow 2 additional batches to be brewed? Could I do more than 2 with 4 jugs? Maybe delaying a batch by a few days to let another finish? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

New equipment for doing multiple batches

I'm looking to expand my brewing kit so I can brew multiple batches at the same time. Right now I have 2 6.5 gallon buckets, a better bottle, and the rest of the equipment to make beer like brushes, spoons, hydrometer, caps, etc. I plan on doing multiple 1 gallon test batches until I find the...

    Old glass carboy found

I found an old glass carboy the other day and was wondering if I could clean it. The reason I ask is because it has been collecting dust and dead bugs for probably over 20 years. Is there a way that I could clean this to ensure that it is safe and clean enough to use for brewing? Looks like it...

    Apple juice sugar and yeast

What should I pay for dextrose? I don't know what it goes for. I found 2 pounds for 10$ shipping included. It's unfortunate I can't find it locally and have to order corn sugar TO the Midwest. :/ Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Apple juice sugar and yeast

I know it's nothing fancy but this is my first trial run of brewing hard cider. I did not get a OG but the FG is 0.991 after 2 weeks. Does that sound right? And what do you recommend I do next? From adding apple juice concentrate (or not), bottling now or later and for how long. I've read 6...

Results from juice, yeast and sugar experiments

This is my first time experimenting with making cider. I took a reading on the 18th after it stopped bubbling and got .991. Today I got the same reading. Time to bottle and add sugar for carbonation? I was wondering how long it can sit in the fermenter before it goes bad?

New brewer looking for first kit

If the ingredients don't go bad quickly, maybe I could wait until I order ingredients from morebeer. How long are they considered fresh or good enough to use for? I might need to get another carboy. Waiting to start the next batch will kill me

New brewer looking for first kit

By the way, why do you think it will have more bitterness? Other than the poor execution haha. What will cause that?

New brewer looking for first kit

I wouldn't want to mess up the 2nd beers recipe by adding other stuff. I don't even know what it's suppose to taste like so I wouldn't know the difference. But I was hoping that I could make a batch of beer later on with the extra ingredients. Another small 1 gallon batch. All I need are hops
