Grey/Gas Quick Disconnect absurdly difficult to attach/remove.

Thank you all for your replies! I verified the in and out posts per notched markings are on the correct places on both kegs. I also tried pressing on all poppets and both the in and outs depress with similar moderately easy effort on both kegs. I will get a replacement O-ring for the...

Grey/Gas Quick Disconnect absurdly difficult to attach/remove.

I have two Torpedo brand 2.4 gallon kegs that I just love. (they're my first kegs). However, one issue I've had since purchase is that the gas (grey) connection is ridiculously difficult to attach and remove. It's simply very tight. So tight that I have to put as much of my own weight on it...

Is this clump of cottony wisps on the glass edge a bad infection?

Just opened the lid and sadly it's definitely growing something that isn't Krausen. Is this something commonly seen, or is it rubbish? It's only 1 gallon, and I'd rather not risk some alien infection or have some creature burst forth from my torso when I'm eating the space special... This...

Is this clump of cottony wisps on the glass edge a bad infection?

I am fermenting honey with an unorthodox wort consisting of 70% flaked wheat (I know, right?) and 30% rolled oats. (the grains were mashed for 30 mins w/ amylase enzyme). It's on its 15th day, and there has been no visual active fermentation for about 2 days. I was going to cold crash it...

Question about Berkey Black Filters and Chlorine and Chloramine removal

! I've never used Campden tablets. I suppose I had only heard of it being used in ciders, mainly. I'm still a very early homebrewer, having brewed only ales, and mead mainly. (No lagers, and veeeery few ciders). I've used simply: All grains, malt extracts, hops, about 5 different yeast...

Question about Berkey Black Filters and Chlorine and Chloramine removal

I have a Big Berkey w/ the 2 black filters that came with it. I always filter my tap water through it for drinking. Berkey advertises that their filter(s) can remove both Chlorine and Chloramines simply by filtering the water, but it isn't too clear whether the black filters do this, or if...

Fruited Braggot? Malted Melomel? Fermenting with malt, honey, and pressed apple juice.

I'm extremely confident in making several styles of ale, mead, and cider. I've never brewed a braggot or a cyser - but extremely interested in creating a drink from all 3. What does one call this drink? A Fruited Braggot? Malted Melomel? A Gem? ... A mistake? O.o I'm planning on making a 5...

How to obtain a milky/cloudy looking beer.

Well, after a few methods, I've given up on using Amylase Enzyme method and fermenting w/ Ale Yeast to create a 100% Rice Ale, for now. I ended up simply deciding to make Amazake and dye it blue ... and it looks exactly like my white / blue photos above, and even more important: It's delicious :D

How to obtain a milky/cloudy looking beer.

This was my previous recipe for 100% pure aesthetics in mind. 100% Cooked Short Grain Sushi Rice , (2 lbs) w/ 1tsp amylase enzyme for 30 mins at 148F. I had a sweet lemon cream flavor in mind, to be served still and very cold, around 35F... I had added lactose to the boil and instead of...

How to obtain a milky/cloudy looking beer.

I'm basically planning on making a very light colored ale (a 3.5% blonde ale with just pale 2-row, and willamette hops) and dying it blue w/ a few drops of food coloring. I have made a half gallon batch once to test it, and it's pale enough so that it doesn't turn green, but remains a light sea...

How to obtain a milky/cloudy looking beer.

I'm after a near-opaque effect for aesthetics for my next beer project. Aiming for a very hazy looking appearance for a very light blonde ale. Would using flaked oats (or rolled oats) or flaked wheat achieve this? I have tried using water from boiled white rice, and amylase enzyme to convert...

I'm seeking to make a clear or cloudy white beer for "Bantha Milk" theme. Chhaang or Zima perhaps?

It's for a local Star Wars themed homebrew fest, so it simply has to be something fermented. (No wines or distilled products allowed). Cider, however - that could work! Is there a quality clear juice I might use? I have indeed used cheap storebought apple juice recently to make hard cider...

I'm seeking to make a clear or cloudy white beer for "Bantha Milk" theme. Chhaang or Zima perhaps?

For a Star Wars party I'm going to in a few months, I'm planning to bring a batch of beer... Specifically, Bantha Milk :D - You know, the Blue Milk served on Tatooine. (Yes, I'm sure 90% of you probably know, I don't mean to insult you) To realistically accomplish this, I have 4 possibilities...

Reality Check / Myth Busting on cyanide contents of homemade almond extract.

I just recently started searching around for a homemade almond extract for brewing, as I enjoy using all homemade ingredients, short of making my own vodka for the extracts :) ... I have found several recipes online that indicated as few as 12 chopped almonds were needed for 1 cup of vodka...

What is importance of hops acidity?

One beer that comes to mind that was disgustingly sweet to me, was Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball. I couldn't finish it alone, as it simply felt like I was sipping on imitation maple syrup. Surprising, coming from Lagunitas.

What is importance of hops acidity?

I am still very new to brewing, and have only brewed one beer, a Brown Ale w/ Raw Cacao Nibs. I was hoping for a bready brown ale with mild chocolate flavors. What I got was a medium bodied brown ale with earthy spicy notes, very enjoyable but very very mild chocolate flavors. I'm told in the...

    Substantially bready flavours.

Well, as of 1/12, I have changed the fridge where the bottles are at from 72 to 55, and also put one in the kitchen fridge for 3 days to chill. Opened it today and here's my harsh self-critique. A bit bummed: -It's a bit overcarbonated and has the mouthfeel of club soda. Guessing b/c I used...

    Substantially bready flavours.

Good grief, I forgot to add when I poured in the 4 lbs. Pale Malt Extract... It was when the timer was at 20 mins. It was suggested by the proprietor of the Homebrew Supply store to not add the Pale at the top of the hour since it's liquid, to avoid any off flavors from it being in the boil...

    Substantially bready flavours.

Ahhhhh ok. Many thanks. I am reading several topics that seem adamant that only 2 weeks should be more than enough, so I thought I had somewhat ruined the batch by doing something silly like tweeking the DME by a mere .5 lbs lol. I will wait longer, then. When you mentioned from the looks...
