Checked the hydro and everything is right. We keep filling up the wort with 5 gals. Do I need to start with like 5.5-6?

    Vanilla and cinnamon additions

Brewed a vanilla milk stout and added 4 vanilla beans to the secondary. I used Madagascar beans. I think everyone thought it was going to be too much vanilla but I really didn't even notice the vanilla in the 5 gallon batch. My question is: I am going to make a cinnamon vanilla porter. It...

    Wyeast London Ale question

I just got a robust porter kit from midwest brewing and I upgraded to the wyeast London ale yeast. On the London ale package it says this yeast should be used with beers that the OG reading should be up to 1.060. And the OG range on the robust porter kit is 1.063-1.067. The wyeast package says...

4 days in primary, no bubbles from airlock???

I put a brewers best smoked porter in the primary on Sunday. It is Thursday and I have seen no bubbles coming from my airlock. I've brewed a milk stout, hefe, Irish red and a nut brown ale all of which bubbles a lot on the first couple nights. It is stored at 64 deg F which is within the...

    Bottle carbing temps?

Just got done bottling a brewers best milk stout in which I added vanilla beans to the secondary (my guess is that doesn't matter for this question) We are carbonating in the bottles. How do I know what temperature I should keep my bottles at? Should I put them in the fridge right away...

How do i know which yeast to use

Be brewed 4 kits. All of which have turned out fine and tasted really good. But I noticed the two batches I brewed with the same yeast packets that came with the kit tasted the same. I want to make sure that doesn't happen again. How do I know which yeasts to use or what to pair with what...

    Blichmanns floor burner?

Have used the conventional stove for my brews but it takes forever to get 5 gals to boil. Question one: do I have to buy a propane tank and fill it like I would my grill? What are all the ways I can get the gas? I saw something about natural gas conversion what does that mean? Question two...

    What's my alcohol content?

If I have not taken an OG or FG and my beer is "done" Is there any way to tell the alcohol content? Can I buy something to help me figure it out?

Started with 4 gallons ended with 3

Oh, I forgot.... Ok I was planning to keg this beer and it will be my first keg. Will it ruin the beer since it is 3 gals in a 5 gal keg? I heard that the oxygen can ruin it?

Started with 4 gallons ended with 3

Is this normal? I'm doing a vanilla milk stout and when I transfered the wort to the primary I had 4 gallons. After a week I transfered to a secondary and added vanilla beans. We're 2 weeks in on the secondary and there is now 3 gallons. Is this normal?
