    Fermenting in Sankey

This is the setup I use. It works great other than not being able to use hop socks. It’s my favorite fermenting vessel so far and really inexpensive. As for the comment elsewhere about the float fitting; mine did but just barely. If there are different sizes available you could get one that...

    Spunding/Co2 process

I’ve had pretty good luck when using the floating dip tube as it does a good job of drawing clear beer. It’s definitely slower than a pressurized transfer but not terrible. I used to run into problems with trub when I used my brew bucket. Not sure if this has helped or not but I do blow some...

    Spunding/Co2 process

This is what I do as well but I swapped out the Corny for a 7.5 gallon Sanke so I can do full batches. Works awesome. Gravity transfers work as well if you get it flowing with remaining pressure in the ferm keg and then hook the two gas posts together to keep things balanced.

Tilt hydrometer in a SS Brew Bucket

Congrats! Sounds like a success to me! Wish I had the room for one. I tested mine in a SS brewbucket this weekend and could get a signal accross the room with updates every second. Not so much with the Sanke. As soon as the ball lock adaptor goes on it stops updating. I need to play with the...

Tilt hydrometer in a SS Brew Bucket

I thought about that. Even looked at the glass versions to get a signal through but the extra height won’t fit in my chamber ☹️

Tilt hydrometer in a SS Brew Bucket

This is what I’m using. There’s room to add an antenna but it will be tight. After my Quad is done fermenting I may take the Sanke out of the rotation so I can experiment with the antenna idea.

Tilt hydrometer in a SS Brew Bucket

I have a 7.5 gallon Sanke. I usually do 5.5-6 gallons in it. Interesting comment on the height vs signal. I doubt I can put much more in as I’ve had a couple of blow-offs at this level when doing bigger Belgians w/o pressure.

Tilt hydrometer in a SS Brew Bucket

Pretty sure you would be fine with pressure. I thought about this too but I don’t think two gaskets would fit under my clamp. Plus, My results with the antenna so far have been very spotty. Still trying to figure out a solution as I’d like to use the Tilt. I think Brewbuckets and the like have...

Tilt hydrometer in a SS Brew Bucket

I wondered about that as well since I’ve seen others use it in similar applications. I emailed them a couple days ago but haven’t heard anything back.

Tilt hydrometer in a SS Brew Bucket

I think I’m going to try the antenna trick. I’ve got the hardware to play with so it’s free to try and a chance to tinker.

Tilt hydrometer in a SS Brew Bucket

Thanks guys. I’m not getting a signal even with my phone laying on the fermentor like they show with the repeater. If I take the cap off the keg it connects but not with the cap on. I’d consider the repeater if I was sure it would pick up the signal through the thicker stainless of the Sanke keg...

Tilt hydrometer in a SS Brew Bucket

Has anyone done any more work on this? I ferment with a 7 gal Sanke and I’m not getting a signal from the Tilt.

    What fermenter is your favorite?

I just re-read the OP and realized the question was on larger units. Sorry to side track the conversation.

    What fermenter is your favorite?

You should be able to do closed transfers with the bucket. Hook up the spigot to the keg beer in and run a line from the keg out up to the bucket vent to keep the pressure equalized and let gravity do the work. If both are full of co2 to start with you are just swapping locations of the...

    What fermenter is your favorite?

Unless you want to do warm lagers pressure isn’t really a big deal. Keep the bucket sealed up and you will be good. It is nice for my ocd to see a stable pressure gauge, even if it’s only a pound or two though.

Also, some people steam sanitize them with water on your burner. Boil the water for a while pushing steam through the pressure spunding valve.

    What fermenter is your favorite?

No, I inherited it from my son a couple years ago. It had a Norcal setup on it that I was apprehensive about using with all the crevices for stuff to hide in. Once I found the kegland ball valve piece it’s been my go to. I’m not sure how hard this size sanke is to find but it’s perfect for 5...

    What fermenter is your favorite?

My new favorite is a 7.5 gallon Sanke with a ball lock/tri-clamp cap and a floating dip tube. After 10 years of brewing this is by far the best and cheapest fermentor I’ve used. Rugged and zero worries about leaks. Able to pressure ferment and cold crash without even thinking about it.
