What To Do with Lager (34/70) Yeast Cake?

I just did a doppelbock with my 34\70 cake and it cranked it out in no time. Good flavor, no off flavors. I used the recipe for Evil Goat, you can find it in the HBT recipe database. It's a great beer, I have made it many times. I do find that for this recipe, decoction mashing has made a...

    Kegging Kit -- For Dumb-Dumb

kegconnection sells a variety of set ups. I got my first kit there. You just need to decide if you want a freezer of fridge as well as how many taps. There is a whole thread on kegorators and how they were built. As far as kits go, 3 taps with just components, no kegs will run about 250

    Recipe suggestions please

I'm not sure what hope you have available but I would be looking to make a rye ipa. I pulled this screenshot from the American Homebrewers Association site. It may give you a good baseline to start from!

    GABF Ticket Question

It's just one or the other. Tickets sell out so fast that there would be no good way for the organizers to give that kind of flexibility for sessions.

    What's a good satisfying 3.2 to 4% beer?

Hey, I wish you luck with this! I go up and down weight Wise and find myself adjusting beer accordingly. I found Jennifer Tally's book Brewing session beers immensely helpful in nailing down a solid session beer. Mygo to is a 4% pils I wrote with guidance from the book. The recipe is as follows...

Less Crushed Grains while using a Drill with the Mill.

I use a drill exclusively with my mill. I seem to notice uncrushed grains when I go too fast. Otherwise it's very consistent. My efficiency stays at just about 80%

    A strange thing happened today...

This is an awesome idea but I do in fact have a tight keezer. Rather than pay money for an electronic solution I will likely end up marking each pour. The collar of my keezer is a chalk board finish. I guess it's a good time to clean the whole keezer out. No excuse not to now!

    A strange thing happened today...

For the the first time I recall in years, I ran completely out of ready to drink beer. I am now impatiently awaiting the completion of a Vienna lager and a hazy citrus pale ale. I usually have too much ready to go. I typically carbonate in a second fridge just to be ready. Funny how that can...

VERMONT ALE - The Yeast Bay - Starter from prior batch harvest

It just says yeast nutrient. I believe it has spring cells and diamoniam phosphate. I used up the last of it and didn't see the bottle... Sorry about that

VERMONT ALE - The Yeast Bay - Starter from prior batch harvest

I have made a starter from an unused vial that was few months old and it worked out well. Make sure to add yeast nutrient and give it an extra day or two before you give up on it. It should work out just fine

looking for an IPA to try out

Perhaps you could share what you didn't like about the ipa so everyone can point you towards something more your taste. It took quite some time before I enjoyed even a pale ale. I have always enjoyed amber ales and browns though. It just seems to take some adjusting to appreciate the bitter and...

    Lactose after fermentation

It would definitely add some sweetness that way. If you're bottle conditioning you could just boil your priming sugar with it and combine in the bottling bucket. If you're kegging just put it in the keg before racking over.

    50/50 Session IPA

I suspect you are seeking feedback? If so I would recommend that you cut the honey malt in half as it is quite potent and just drop the Vienna malt. It will likely just muddle your malt character. Maris otter and Munich are plenty malty on their own and add good flavor. In regard to hops, I...

Got the LD from an online supplier, old yeast pack sent

It should. Just let it sit for d rest and it should clear up. I wouldn't package till it does. It will linger otherwise.

Shwagger, how did the brew day go? Did the yeast do it's thing?

Got the LD from an online supplier, old yeast pack sent

With the 1L starter you have already done cell count should be about half the recommended amount about 224B with the vitality starter the yeast should get the sterol boost they need to split and reach the recommended rate quickly. Sterols reinforce the cell walls of yeast and when they have...

Got the LD from an online supplier, old yeast pack sent

That's how I did it. The idea is that with 4 hours on a stir plate the yeast has built up it's sterol levels enough that additional oxygen in the wort isn't needed.
