Can I use GT'S to start a SCOBY?

I can't remember the name of it(I'll try and update if I can find the bottle in the recycling.), but I bought a bottle of some organic ginger green tea kombucha from a local coffee shop. I brewed up a dark, Pu-erh tea, 60 minute steep using 3 tablespoons of tea in 2 quarts of boiling...

Tired of fruit flies? heres the cure....

How did you set things up? I just jumped on here to say how well it's been working. I put about a quarter inch of kefir or kombucha in a small sauce dish, then add 2-3 drops of dish soap, give it a quick gentle stir (don't want to get the bubbles forming.) And place it next to my fermenting...

    Using Ginger

I have been making ginger beer with kefir. Now I like HOT ginger tastes in my beers so I tend to use quite a bit. I generally aim to have about 4 cups of ginger per gallon. I chop the ginger fairly fine, and add to my sugar water (Honey, molasses and coconut sugar/nectar) and boil for 15-20...

To much oxygen seems to feed the critters and they eat up the alcohol. Now kombucha has the scoby which should...

    Tibicos aka Water Kefir

@skadalajara Ya, the milk kefir is interesting, I don't mind it, but the fact that it's fizzy milk still gets to me at times. :P Good with a bit of raspberry or tart cherry juice added. I like the kefir for thee milder flavours you get from it compared to the kombucha. But I drink both, have...

    Tibicos aka Water Kefir

Not sure if this is the right forum to post in but I figured kombucha is the closest thing to tibicos/kefir, on this forum. For those of you that do not know about this Probiotic fermenter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibicos I was curious to find out if anyone else is fermenting with it...
