    Infected batch?

Thanks for all the help! There is a lot of head space. Unfortunately, don't have a lot of choices at the moment. I moved to Ukraine from the States and brought some of my equipment with me. Buckets etc were not on the list of things I was able to being. There are one or two online stores where...

    Infected batch?

Just bottled a Oatmeal Rye Imperial Stout. I noticed these little guys floating around on the top of the secondary before transferring to the bottleing bucket. I can't recall in all my homebrewing over the past few years seeing anything like it. Just wondering if the batch might be infected...

Dimensions for a vertical gas smoker

I'm trying to get my hands on the dimensions of a vertical gas smoker. I live in Ukraine and smokers are hard to come by or insainly expensive. There is a local fabrication shop that is willing to build me a custom smoker if I get them dimensions. I'm mainly curious about the distance from the...

    Heat and Sunlight

Hey all, thanks so much for the replies. Sorry I guess I didn't quite communicate clearly on my two questions. I have a fermenting fridge, so temp control under fermentation is not a problem. However, once it ferments out and I move it to secondary can I just leave it in a dark closet even if...

    Heat and Sunlight

I've been trying to find a few answers before brewing my first mead. I have come to understand that if I have a way to control temp (which I do) it can be important during fermentation. Some things I am wondering post-fermentation...like beer does heat and light break down mead? The...

    Hydrometer/Refractometer (Agree but don't...)

I hear you...that is why I didn't even look at the brix on my hydrometer at first. It only caught my attention as I was putting it away. That got me to thinking why are they so off. Then BlueHouseBrew helped me sort it out. Explaining about refraction etc. I agree that is why my...

    Hydrometer/Refractometer (Agree but don't...)

BlueHouseBrew you are right and I'm wrong. I just fished out my hydrometer from storage and it is indeed 3.3. Thanks so much! Truly appreciate it.

    Hydrometer/Refractometer (Agree but don't...)

Thanks BlueHouseBrew. I was starting to think that might be what it is. I think you just explained it to me. Although it still seems odd as I got a reading of around 4.7 Brix on the hydrometer. I guess the important thing is I'm not going crazy and my refractometer plus the calculator is...

    Hydrometer/Refractometer (Agree but don't...)

Would that not be the same for the refractometer? Which then should also be reading 4.7 as the FG along with the hydrometer or the other way around hydrometer read 10 like the refractometer. The reason I ask is aren't both the hydrometer with it's brix scale and the refractometer set to show...

    Hydrometer/Refractometer (Agree but don't...)

Thanks McKnuckle for the reply. Northern Brewers calculator is giving me the same thing pretty much as the other calculator. OG: 1.083 or 21 Brix FG: 1.013 or 10 Brix What I still don't get is...How come my refractometer reads 10 Brix and my Hydrometer reads 4.7 Brix for FG. That is pre...

    Hydrometer/Refractometer (Agree but don't...)

I just purchased a new hydrometer a couple days ago. This one has Brix included on it. I purchased it because I was afraid my refractometer might be off. I brew small 1.5 gal batches so taking hydrometer readings take up to much of my beer. Anyway...to the point. Yesterday I bottled a...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Got my temp probes in and they came with green, red, and yellow wires. I'm sure somewhere in this thread there is info on this. However, I can't find anything for now. Wondering how these colors line up with the diagram given by the OP. I'm assuming greens with green, reds with reds, and the...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Sorry if this question was already asked but how many amps do you need for this? I have a 750mA Nokia phone charge. The problem I'm running into is that even after getting all the software running I plug in the arduino it does not power. I can't figure out if it is because 750mA is not...

    Beersmith

I really liked Beersmith (did a trial version) but settled with Brewtarget. It's free and works on Linux. I will say it does have a bit more of a learning curve then Beersmith but I enjoy the fact its free and open source.

    Canker Sores

Alum (you can get it where the spices are. Put it on before you go to bed. Do not drink after you apply it. Warning: This will be painful. But my wife and I and all our friends use it. If they are small they should be gone by morning. If they are bigger then half the size by morning and gone...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I think I'm out of luck...it's an old Viewsonic GTab and all the searching I've done seems to show that it isn't really possible to install Debian on it. Touchscreen won't work, wireless may or may not work etc...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I'm sure this has problem been addressed numerous times in this thread. Could I use my old tablet that I can't even use anymore in place of the Raspberrypi? Again, please forgive me if I'm asking a question that has been answered already. If you could provide me with a few links to where the...

    Buying Plane Tickets for Dummies

I'd be happy to help, but I'd need more info. I travel quite a bit. Since I'm self employed and I have always found travel agents more expensive I've done all my own bookings over the past 9 years. I end up useing a combination of sites to figure out my final booking. If you want you can PM me...
