Please help diagnose my first AG brewing mistakes.

whip, A mash at 148F sounds really low especially if I want more residuals, no? I already got good attenuation. Went from 1.070 to 1.012

Seltzer with Lemon Safety (Off - Topic)

I've asked a number of people in my HB group, on Quora including food safety people, homebrewers and chemists and the consensus seems to be that the sugar in the lemon and the low pH would invite breeding of nasties and is generally considered a bad idea. Refrigerated the estimate was about 4...

Too much sparge water negative side effects

"Just to be clear that does not mean I toss in water willy-nilly and leave any unused wort in my MLT...what is meant is that if I'm a gallon short I would run exactly 1 gallon more water through the grains. That's all no more no less. And in my case readings have never been to low. Others or...

Seltzer with Lemon Safety (Off - Topic)

Yeah carbonated water I don't see any problem with but once I introduce the lemons, not sure what that will do

Single to Dual Beer Tower Mod

I have an old DKC445BL kegerator with a 2.5" (not standard 3") tower that comes with it. I believe it's alumninum but not sure. I want to get s second line in there. The shank and elbow preclude me putting a second one in at the same height but if I go a little lower I can totally fit it...

Seltzer with Lemon Safety (Off - Topic)

I know I probably won't make any friends with this clearly off topic question but maybe I'll catch some homebrew experts in a good mood (You guys usually are). I want to fill one of my Cornys with water and lemons and carb it. Any chance of infections? I imagine not with carbed water...

Single Danby Kegerator -> Dual ?

I'm thinking of getting the manifold. Now the hard part is putting a hole in the default beer tower. I may probably have to spring for a new one, right?

Single Danby Kegerator -> Dual ?

Thanks again guys for all your help. I really love the HB community. I pledge once I learn something to do likewise. ;)

Single Danby Kegerator -> Dual ?

I'm rapidly becoming stupid question guy but here goes: I have an older style Danby DKC445BL which I've got setup for 1 corny with 1 gas tank. I've googled a bit but I'm still not finding information that a hardware nob like me can digest. If I wanted to put one more corny in there and...

Too much sparge water negative side effects

doug, not sure I follow. I'm not talking about mash water which I would generally do 1.25qt/lb but sparging. I would imagine doubling my sparge water would half my 2nd running gravity unless I'm fly sparging I would think.

Too much sparge water negative side effects

Not sure I understand still. I use 0.5G / lb grain. Let's say I go to 1.0G / lb grain. Won't that reduce my wort's gravity (at least the second runnings) by 100%?

Too much sparge water negative side effects

Beginning AG brewer here. I've heard a lot of concern about sparging with too little volume of water. I've also heard that you keep adding sparge water until you reach your desired wort volume in the brew kettle. I'm having a difficult time understanding that. Say you add (in theory...

The water treatment additions were made from the water report by my experienced brewer friend. I was definitely happy with the fact that the hops weren't harsh and I think that contributed.

Cucumber Gose - Lacto temp control

I'm a beginner AG brewer (Did a few extracts before and one AG with plenty of help). I'd like to do a cucumber gose with some berries (I know is somewhat advanced but I'm psyched about it). My plan is the following: 1. Mash in low (148F or so) 2. lower mash pH to 4.5 ish using lactic acid 3...

    Alternatives to Cornelius/Future of Kegging

Been looking on eBay, Amazon, kijiji (our crappy version of Craigslist), Craigslist, local Pepsi distributors and LHBS. Cheapest I've found is $109 @ LHBS. Ann Arbor's Adventures in Homebrewing is selling them $60 USD = $84 CAD (including sales tax), which just might be worth the trip. LHBS...

    Alternatives to Cornelius/Future of Kegging

Want to refresh an existing thread and ask about the future of homebrew kegging. Cornelius kegs are becoming increasingly hard to come by (and therefore correspondingly expensive if you can even find them.) LHBS here is selling them for about $110CAD which is about $86 USD right now. As...
