Should I skim the krausen in a brew bucket?

Leave it alone for a few weeks, it will be fine. Then maybe rack in to a barrel or demi johns.

If you need a laxative a pint of perry is the way to go. Its called a perry poo in our house as sorbitol is a natural laxative.

    Plums,Plums,Plums i have loads??

I've 2 gallons here in uk, gone with 4lbs pitted and mashed plums, very ripe and sweet, 6 pints of water, 1kg bag of sugar, 1 campden tablet per gallon and champagne yeast. Rack it once through a sieve only after a week and it sort of seperating in demi john like a keeved cider would.

    Perry same as Cider?

Have just done a pyder using 50% pears (hard conference) and apples (obviously). It's only ended up as 1.040 but tastes very sweet. Leaving one gallon demijohn to bubble away and the other I,m doing multiple rankings to see if it ends up clearer or retains a bit more sweetness, or wether they...

Cider fermentation- Have I done it all wrong, or am I just impatient?

Did you hydrate the yeast in a glass of warm water and a spoon of sugar and leave for 30 minutes prior to pitching?

    Apple and Blackberry Cider.

After a week of fierce fermentation, lots of co2 and very little froth, mine has fermented out to 1.00. Its dry but flavoursome and a lovely red colour. I will rack in a week and eventually bottle with some splenda or candarell. May well do another batch. Lets see if this phone will attach a...

    Apple and Blackberry Cider.

Blackberries are common at the mo in the uk, so picked a few pounds, crushed them and extracted the juice, and added it to a gallon of apple juice I pressed the same day. It tastes really good as just juice but was only 1.040 SG so added some sugar. Will pitch yeast tommorow and let it ferment...

    Looking for a GOOD crusher

I bought a £10 garden shredder (alco h100) off eBay and it's brilliant. You end up with a fine pulp.

    Early experimental UK cider.

Did an early batch today using some roadside apples, mix of red fleshed crabs, and mostly goodness knows what apples from an old overgrown orchard here in Northamptonshire. My £10 eBay garden shredder worked brilliantly and did 2 gallons. The juice has a slightly earthy taste to it and not...
