Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

That is about what I get. Here is something that happended to me: A friend of the wife's was being supportive. Her (friend) hubby and son drink beer, so I should let them try it. So, I give them two nice smooth porters. I get the bottles back in about two days. I asked what they...

    Yeast?

Is there a chart showing fermenting temperatures based on exact yeast strain used?

    GF Malts

Whoops. Ingredient list has oats. Never mind. Yes, GF oats IS from cross contamination from other crops. Oats gave no wheat gluten.

    GF Malts

I am very confused. After tons of research, it would seem like the best grain would be oats. I use oats all the time. There is gluten, but not wheat gluten in them.

How many gallons of homebrew in 2014?

Going to try for five gallons/week. I am set up for six at a time, so, one batch a week should keep me going. That would mean 5 gals x 52 weeks for 260 gallons. Huge goals. We will see.

2013's How many gal of homebrew in 2013

For 2013, I brewed 8 5 gal batches. That is 40 gallons. 47 12 oz bottles avg. per 5 gals. That makes 376 12 oz bottles. My highest output ever! I am still a noob! Obviously.

What is up with my carbonation?

This is a problem I am having with my latest batch. I created an apple brown ale and it is flat. I used an extract brew and bottled it. There is about a 1/4th inch sediment in the bottom, so I assume the yeast is still in the bottle. I get a tiny hiss when I open one, but no carbonation. I...

    Beer color

I have the exact same issue. Trying to get a "yellow" beer. Even used a LME and a Pilsner extract. What gives?

    Attention new all grain brewers!

Whoops. That was an incomplete question. When I rinse, is THAT what I collect, and if so, how can I control the volume of water during the rinse? OR, am I failing to understand the process?

    Attention new all grain brewers!

Sorry if this is idiotic. I have searched and searched these forums. I cannot understand the AG process. I have figured out that I gave to bake my barley for a time. Then, I soak it. Then, I rinse it. Here is my problem in understanding. If I rinse it, how can I collect the sugar? Thanks...

So, 1: Why? 2: Why? I am just learning, so... Why?

    Dry yeast

Quick question: I have only ever used liquid yeast. Now that I am trying to find gluten-free brews, and experimenting with different things. So, is pitching dry yeast different/harder than liquid? Any tricks to it?

    Fish tanks

OK. Well, I see that is a bad idea, then. So, I am still working on things. THAT one I thought of, one day when I was looking at my area and figuring out my design. Fishtanks are out. It just SEEMED ideal. You can see in it, you can easily put a spigot on the end, and it is relatively...

    Fish tanks

Why the yuck? It is as sanitizable as the next glass container. I would not use it for open fermenting, either. There are lids that can be sealed. I am asking because of the dimensions. They seem to do well. My brewery has a low ceiling and I am trying to get my stuff to fit well. And...

    Fish tanks

Just been wondering... With my new basement/brewery, would a 50 or a 20 gallon fishtank do the trick for lots of different things? I can see it for the mash tun. I can see it for the fermenting. Both are easy to aerate, when you add the aerators. Just wondering if it had been tried before...

I am a Wizard, some call me Bill...

Thanks Matt. I need this kind of information if I am going to do this right. So far, I am a long way from completion. I got 2 220's wired in. I got 4 110's. I got my drains connected. I have this basement cleaned (finally). It is a complete unfinished basement. I am going to be putting...
