    Yeast starter- still good?

I guess I'll just take a look in the morning and see if it's settled decently. First brew in a year so I'm more paranoid than usual. Anyway, thanks for your help. I'll just have to remember WPL0001 is an energetic one!

    Yeast starter- still good?

So I assume you dump the whole starter in? I've done it that way before and never had a problem. 2L just seemed like a lot. Since I dumped some of it though I don't want to take the chance of wasting any more yeast so I'll just leave it out overnight and pitch it all. I just hope I didn't let...

    Yeast starter- still good?

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I have to go to work soon. If I throw it in the fridge tonight, would enough settle to be able to decant a tiny bit more? Or should I just leave it at room temp in the hopes of getting a few more cells?

    Yeast starter- still good?

So, I was going to just let this ride because I'm sure it's fine, but my natural anxiety got the better of me, so here I am. I made a 2L starter, California ale WLP001, last night and it turned into a volcano. Looks like this is pretty common so I just let it ride. But I was losing so much down...

Need advice on adjusting/fixing IBU's for Porter

Just going to bump once; brewing tomorrow. I suppose I basically just want to know if the combination of EKG and NB would work for a porter. I'll probably do the EKG at 60. Won't get much but the IBU's from them right?

Need advice on adjusting/fixing IBU's for Porter

Hello all. I'm making a Anchor Porter clone this weekend with a recipe from Brew Your Own which is as follows: 11 lbs 14 oz 2 Row 1.5 lbs 40 L 12 oz Black Malt 12 oz Chocolate 6.7 AAU Northern Brewer 0.7 oz @ 60 3.4 AAU Northern Brewer 0.35 oz @ 30 Now, my problem arises from the...

    Question for Brewer's Friend Users

So it ends up I'm partially just a fool. It was 11 and 14 oz of 2 row not just 11. So it was closer, but it was still off, especially the FG. I'm hesitant now because it's already going to be high gravity; if I get even 70% instead of 6% I'll be well over 1.080! I'll probably just go for it and...

    Question for Brewer's Friend Users

Hello all. I've been using Brewer's Friend to build my first few all grain recipes, but for the first time I plugged in a recipe from Brew Your Own and found that the numbers don't match up, and I'm wondering what I'm missing. I'm planning on doing the Anchor Steam Porter Clone recipe with the...

    Munich or Crystal in IPA?

Hey thanks for the tip, very informative. About halfway through my mash now. I think it will turn out nicely for my first (all grain) IPA.

    Munich or Crystal in IPA?

Without what? By the way the LHBS was out of Citra and Amarillo which ruined my whole plan, so now I'm going with Warrior at 60 and all Cascade for flavor/aroma. Hopefully it turns out well, I had already made my starter so I needed to use it.

    Munich or Crystal in IPA?

Added. And the particulars are 1.066, 1.016, 6.5% and 74 IBU. With so many late additions I'm considering maybe cutting out the dry hopping, or just adding to them at flameout instead. That's one of the reasons to hop burst anyway isn't it? I want a very clear beer and the hop mess could be...

    Munich or Crystal in IPA?

Alright final draft, let me know if there's any gross misconduct for an IPA: 9.5 lbs MO 3 lbs. Vienna .5 lbs carapils 1 oz. Warrior @ 60 1 oz. Each of Citra and Amarillo mixed and added at 5 and 0. Dry hop with 1 oz. each Amarillo and Citra for 5 days. Oh and American II yeast with 2L starter.

    Munich or Crystal in IPA?

I will. And you're right; attempting to stop stressing is the story of my life haha this is going to be my 'baseline' anyway, so it's meant to be a learning experience. Thanks for the feedback.

    Munich or Crystal in IPA?

I may mess with the hop schedule a little still, depending on what I use to bitter. I did initially plan on using and ounce of Citra to bitter but I'm thinking about using warrior now to up the IBU's. I'm still going to use an ounce each of Citra and Amarillo at the end but I may take out the 15...

    Munich or Crystal in IPA?

I had just finished adjusting the numbers before I read your reply and it looks like I'm in the ballpark which is reassuring. 10 lbs. MO and 3 Munich (roughly 80% to 20%) gives me 1.065 and 1.016, with 57 IBU's. I know 57 is on the lower end but I'm going for drinkability. Will probably change...

    Munich or Crystal in IPA?

Another variable I just thought about was sweetness/dryness regarding the terminal gravity. As it stands it should terminate at 1.018, at the high end for the style, with 54 IBU's. I want it to be dry and bitter but not overwhelming- will such a high FG be a problem? I'm really stuck between...

    Munich or Crystal in IPA?

Alright, I think it's going to look something like this: 12 lb. MO (82.8%) 2.5 lb. Vienna (17.2%) Maybe even just 11:3. Mash at 150, maybe 152 haven't quite decided. Probably minor difference. 1 oz. Citra @ 60 A 2 oz. blend of Citra/Amarillo (divided into roughly .5 oz) at 15, 10, 5, 0...
