English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Timothy Taylor Landord. I brewed up a few batches and after a few tweaks it was spot on. Wish I could find it in SoCal these days, haven’t seen it in a number of years.

    Make IPA Clear Again

    Looks perfect! Great job!

    Best investment in brewery?

Best investment “bang for the buck” is a Craigslist refrigerator. Use a digital temp control. I can dial in any temperature from freezing to ambient. Great for fermentation control.

    Hops for pills

I did a Citra Pils once, turned out FANTASTIC. Need to do it again!

    Yeast for Kolsch

Widmer Hefeweizen is believed to use an Alt/Kolsch yeast. You could go grab a half case and harvest some. I’ve used it before, worked well. Should be Ok for both your Kolsch and Hefeweizen.

    Green bottles from commercial beer

I have a set of repurposed green commercial bottles I use for sours. They are the thick bottles. Green can allow skunking if you aren’t careful.

What do I brew for my girl?

One other thing - she’s not going to end up drinking the 5-gallon corny keg you make for her. You are. So make something YOU like!

What do I brew for my girl?

Let’s face it. Most gals just aren’t into beer. I know you can find a few who are, but for the most part they aren’t. I really wouldn’t waste your time brewing for someone who only marginally drinks beer, and she does so mostly to please you. Save your brewing sessions for something YOU...

    What are you drinking now?

Speaking of green glass, I noticed a lot more antique green glass in the more Northern US, Canada and continental Euro climates say 100 years ago. Maybe the less sun it was less of an issue. I’ve seen vintage Schlitz ads touting their dark brown glass.

    What are you drinking now?

Things come up, so it looks like my IPA reviews are going to be pushed back a few days. Enjoy the game!

    What are you drinking now?

Well I’m in the final turn of IPAFest 2024. If I’m counting correctly, we should deplete out on day 42, which is this upcoming Sunday. Should I go out and do some more IPA shopping? JUST KIDDING!!! I’ve been hitting these IPAs day in and day out since January 1. Let me tell you, it really...

    What are you drinking now?

Day 38 of the IPA treadmill. There is no end to this, they are like counting stars in a distant galaxy, only to find there are billions of other galaxies! Tonight’s chug is another Hopisaurus of an IPA, Lagunitas’ Maximus Colossal IPA, 9% ABV. I remember reviewing this beer some time ago, I...

    What are you drinking now?

Firestone Walker has outdone themselves on this one. Fantastic dark forest “pine” flavor, resinous and hoppy, 6.7% ABV, EASY drinking and fantastic beer! Plus I found a great glass! Totally interesting brew from their Paso Robles brewery. Go down and buy all the single cans before everybody...

    What are you drinking now?

On the road much of this week, and left those two Golden Roads from yesterday behind. We’ll catch up with them later this week. A great opportunity to drink another tasty brew from Drake’s Brewing, San Leandro, CA. Hopocalypse is a monster 9.3% ABV Double West Coast IPA. I looked all around...

    What are you drinking now?

Today I’m drinking, er I WAS drinking a couple Golden Road Brewing, Los Angeles IPAs. Golden Road is well known for easy drinking beers, but I’m really not liking these two low ABV entries. Both beers pour virtually lifeless, virtually no fizz, I’d guess maybe around 1 volume or less CO2. No...

    What are you drinking now?

One of my daughters lives up in NorCal. She and her clan are beginning to worry about losing Beermeister32 to this IPAFest 2024 Extravaganza. Quite honestly, I’m beginning to worry a bit too. If I see another can of IPA, I think I’m going to go out of my mind! NOT! The truth is, we come...

    What are you drinking now?

Breaking these multi-IPA choice breweries into Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 is really the way to go. Weekends, I can handle the big reviews, 4-5 pints. Weekdays I’ve gotta get up the next day ladies and fellas. I need time to dry out! These two Pizza Port beers really hit home what I’ve been...

    What are you drinking now?

“The hits just keep on coming! – That’s 50’s-80’s Top 40 radio talk, and the same applies to all these delicious San Diego-area IPAs! Great job! Today I’m splitting my 4-can presentation for the sake of sobriety and my IPA-swamped organs. Pizza Port out of Carlsbad has been on the scene since...

    What are you drinking now?

Its times like this that I’m reminded of that song “Heads Carolina, Tails California! That’s the way it is bouncing back and forth between great IPAs from both sides of the country! We’ve left Asheville, North Carolina and moved our drinking solidly back into the San Diego beer Mecca –...
