    Coores light clone

Yes. Thumbs up on NB's cream ale. It's definitely a lighter beer, but has a surprising amount of flavor. Everyone I have given it to has liked it. It's kind of like a Genesee Cream Ale and Old Vienna combined...but with a more flavor, as NB puts it; "buttered toast like flavor".

Say No To Mr. Beer, The Gateway Drug To Homebrewing

That's the one that was good for me. It was an American "lager" with some DME and dry hopped with cascade. Tasted okay, like the blonde ale you can get from Trader Joes..Not really good, not bad, but definitely not worth the price they charge for 1.87 pounds of HME. Used US-05 with it. For the...

    Best Extract Kit dealers..

Northern Brewer is my go to most of the time, good ingredients, flat rate shipping... I am pleased with my one order from Midwest and their customer support as well - Both times I sent them an email I got a response in less than 10 minutes.

Say No To Mr. Beer, The Gateway Drug To Homebrewing

And definitely say no to their extracts! I started with Mr. Beer too. Now I have done it all, Extract, PM, AG and do 5 gallon batches. I did like 8 or 9 Mr. Beer kits. Each one turned out pretty bad...Except for 1 that turned out okay. I know it's not my process or water, as I had done PM and...

A few random things this noob has learned along the way.

Nice list sir. I wouldn't call myself a noob, but not incredibly experienced. I have done roughly 20 batches, some 1 gal, 2 gal, 5 gal...some HME, some partial mash, some all grain. The most important lesson I learned - the hard way - is proper pitching temperature and fermentation...

    2 Different Mr. Beer HMEs

I would follow what he said. Since the CAL has no taste at all, I would add that first. Then do the hop boil...Then use the Diablo IPA as a late addition, either at the end or last 5 minutes. Generally boiling Hopped Malt Extract is not advised, as it has been previously boiled to give you a...

    Am I a bad person?

If you can buy it from an online vendor for cheaper, even after including shipping and sometimes tax(sometimes it is included) - do it. Capitalism for the win. Paying extra for an item, simply because it happens to be sold in the same locale as you is just silly. Of course there are many...

    2 Different Mr. Beer HMEs

The CAL has minimal hop taste......as well as minimal malt taste........well, honestly, it pretty much has minimal taste all together. I don't think it will hurt. I would definitely ditch the Mr. Beer yeast and use soemthing like US-05 though. Also, if you are using the little brown keg, I...

Are you an extract or all-grain brewer?

Mostly extract now... I did a bunch of 1 gallon batches that were All Grain, not really looking to do 5 Gallons All grain yet, not to mention don't really have the equipment too

Best way to bring beer home when flying?

My girlfriend is from Germany, while visiting her dad in the fatherland, I brought him some canadian beers...For some reason he really wanted to try some :P Put them in a zipoloc bag, just incase...Rapped in a towel, and then placed in the middle of my suitcase between clothes..no problems!

So I really am a noob. I'm brewing an oatmeal stout as a partial mash for my third br

In my experience...Compared to S-04 and other yeasts, US-05 Isn't as "energetic." Also just a little tip if you do another 2.5 gallon batch with the Mr. Beer keg...Don't worry too much about an explosion, probably won't happen..But! It can leak if fermentation is rigorous enough, and leak down...

The beer that got you into beer

    Not at FG yet.

So Im at the 3 week mark for my first 5 gallon batch.. my LHBS Oktoberfest. Partial mash, with Liquid and dry extract and steeping grains. Starting Gravity was 1.054, Supposed to be 1.052 +/- .002. Used Saflager S-23 included with the kit. This was my first time making a "lager". For the 5...

    What are you drinking now?

I'm drinking DogFish Head King Midas Touch..Not exactly something new or anything, but my local beer stores have not had it anytime I checked within the last year...I like the history surrounding it, so I have been looking for it for a while. Today when at the local store, I checked out the...

When is it Legit to apply your own Name to a Brew

Meh. Regardless of what I brew...HME, Partial Mash, AG..I just write "Amber Ale" , "Stout" etc on the labels, as well as the date they were brewed and estimated abv.. But I figure, as long as you did something to it to "make it your own", it should be okay to affix your name to it.

. . .Mold? Infection . . .What do you think

Had an amber ale that looked almost identical...Wasn't infected :)
