Hey folks, I have a non-working reach in freezer available. Just putting it out here to see if anybody wants to take it off our hands and be able to use it for something homebrew related. I can help load it. Dimensions: 6'6" x 29.5" x 7' Price: Maybe make a donation to our Non-Profit...

Do you need to pbw your pre-boil equip?

I usually soak all the hoses, canes and such in my mash tun (with PBW) just to keep it looking decent and smelling like nothing. If you've never thoroughly cleaned your ball valves, you may want to take them apart and check em out. I've seen some nasty stuff going on in there.

    Torpedo Keg perspective

I can't believe how much prices on used cornys has risen even just in the short time that I've been brewing. Really has started making buying new almost the more affordable option. Most of the time recently when I see used cornys on the market they are from somebody doing a huge buy in, keeping...

    Homebrew Brewery Name?

Homer Crossroad's Doghouse Brewery & Sensual Massagehaus Brewing Company? May as well merge the two into a one stop shop I suppose. :ban:

    Hot tap water for mashing?

I'm kind of miffed at how quickly people are to judge someone by their water heater temps! :ban: Do people actually sue their friends for turning only the hot water on and mindlessly shoving their booger hooks into the water? In terms of water quality, considering mine has to run through...

Computers taking over the beer scene?

Wow, and I thought complete automation of the brewing process was a little over the top, now recipe formulation can be automated? I really want to make beer but I want nothing to do with the making of the beer...

    Pliny in San Diego

Most places I've seen to get Pliny receive a limited stock and you usually have to ask for it as they don't stock it on the shelves. The only place I've ever seen it on tap is at Russian River. But maybe they distribute a little more down there as the brewery is fairly accessible if you're in...

    Keezer/Fermentation Chamber Combo Viability

That's a neat idea. Once fermentation is complete you could simply remove the insulation and fermwrap and cold crash right to serving temp/force carb temp. Then the only time it's disturbed is after cold crash and you can just lift it out, keg it, and then put it back in.

    Cooling a Cold Storage Room

Cool thanks guys for the input, I thought maybe the AC unit would work, but just wanted to ask before plunking the money on one. Perhaps I'll do one of those mini fridge expansion box builds, I just don't see being able to fit three 6.5 carboys in a standard upright fridge.

    Cooling a Cold Storage Room

Thanks for the responses! Just to clarify, the cold storage room is inside the shed (the storage room used to be a canning storage room), and I know it's hard to tell from the sideways pictures, but the door to it is about a foot thick (definitely has insulation), all the other sides are about...

    Cooling a Cold Storage Room

Hey guys, So in the shed that I brew in there is a cold storage room, I didn't start checking the temps in there until early this spring when I was able to easily keep it at 65*F with an STC-1000 and the tiniest of space heaters. Well the last couple weeks we had a heat wave of 100* days...

What process / technique / piece of equipment has improved your beer the most?!

Temperature control definitely helps a lot, after that the next piece of equipment I need to buy is some stainless steel quality patience.

    why boil?

Oh for sure, that was sort of a hasty reply, sorry if I sounded curt. It's not too often I'm the first poster on something I think I know. I've also never made ginger ale or hard root beer, so there very well may be some other reason. I've been making beer for 3 years and I still consider myself...

    why boil?

The 15 minute boil makes it completely sterile, lowering your chances for infection. It also thoroughly mixes the sugar water and molasses.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

    Just brewed this up a couple days ago. I couldn't help but change the hops a little. Also my lhbs doesn't have c-10 so I subbed with c-15. I did: .75 centennial @ 60 .25 cascade @ 15 .25 centennial @ 10 .25 cascade @ 5 .25 centennial @ 0 If the hops are over the top I'll rebrew...

Removing divider between freezer and refrigerator compartment

Looks like this guy was able to do it: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=128026 Though of course it all depends on the fridge. If you go for it, it would be very awesome if you could take some pictures. I'd like to see more examples as I'm contemplating doing the same thing. :mug:

How many brews have you dumped??

I've dumped a couple when I was still in the very early days of AG and didn't really know what I was doing, also trying weird ingredients like rose hips... Then there was the vanilla imperial stout that tasted amazing, but didn't really carbonate because I used honey as my bottling sugar...
