Irish Red Ale Quaffable Irish Red (All Grain) Scrapper's

I'm looking to brew this for my next. I am wanting a spicy hoppy red. I am looking at the 38.2 IBU version. If I used Chinook instead of Goldings would I get that result? Should I use the same amount and same time?

    Shank Help

    Oh, great, thanks!

    Shank Help

They are not very long, which is ok I think, the problem is that they are curved to fit the round tower and the new tower will be flat on front.

    Shank Help

I am getting a new t tower for my Christmas gift and it will not come with shanks. First, I assume that the shanks from my round tower are not compatible, is that true? Secondly, where is the best place to get shanks for a good price? I looked at beverage factory and for a ss shank it is nearly...

    First BIAB

I am thoroughly confused now, how do you know if the mash is done in 20 min? What does the remaining time do?

    First BIAB

We had the grains double crushed at the LHBS, next time we will not increase the grain. We also increased the mash time from 45 minutes to 90 minutes at the recommendation of the LHBS to compensate for the BIAB. Generally speaking for BIAB, is there anything you do to modify a recipe from AG...

    First BIAB

I attempted my first BIAB last weekend after about a year of extract/specialty grains. In addition to trying a new method, we tried a modified version of a recipe from this site. Loon Lake Smoked Porter We followed one poster's idea of upping the smoked grain. Additionally we added 10%...

    Help FG Way Off

Thanks for the reply, since we have transferred already is that going to have a negative impact?

    Help FG Way Off

My friend and I made an oktoberfest lager two weeks ago. We made a double batch full boil. We used the Brewers best kit and just used two of them. In the end we fermented in two different 5g vessels. Because of the kits, we had two different manufacturers of yeast. Today we transferred to...

Foam problem to no head now

I has been on the CO2 since 6/21, so about 3 weeks now. It does seem to be pouring better. Does 12 psi seem about right? I don't want to make foam bombs again by cranking it way too high.

Foam problem to no head now

I'll give it a little longer before I adjust anything to be sure carbonation is complete. The last keg in there was a nut brown and it was the same way into the end of the keg though.

    Full boil 10g batch

Well, the burner did fine, we got it to a boil without too much problem. Cooling did not go so well, we have a wort chiller but it took over an hour to get it to 80 and didn't go lower than that. We pitched and put in the fermentation chamber hoping it cools in there quickly enough to keep the...

    Full boil 10g batch

We'll find out in a few hours if the burner can keep up. It's an old turkey fryer and has done great on 3g partial boils.

Foam problem to no head now

When I got my kegerator I had foam problems. I have replaced line with 12' 3/16" and the regulator to a taprite. Now I don't get any head on the pour, even if it is straight down into the glass. I am at 37° and 12 psi. Do I just need to crank up the pressure? Where I am now is in the yellow on...

    Full boil 10g batch

Tomorrow I am going to try a full boil and double batch for the first time. I recently got a 15g pot so I thought I would give it a try. We are doing a kit made for 5g, so we bought 2 of them. Is it as simple as following the instructions but just doubling, ie put both grain bags in while...

Why is my beer too dark?

We ended up using 3lb for the entire boil and 3lb at flame out. The wort was noticeably lighter colored than our previous beer (pale ale) and seemed to have gotten most of the color from the hops, it was definitely green tinted. Is there any specific time to wait after adding the flame out...

Why is my beer too dark?

Partial boil, 5g batch, 2.5g boil

Why is my beer too dark?

Sorry to hijack, but this applies to me tonight. We are brewing our first light colored beer and want to try to keep it light. It has 6lb Gold LME, should we do half at the start and half at flame out or just all at the end? Up until now we have always made an amber color or darker so we've...

    Foamy Pours from New Setup

On Friday night I bled the pressure from the kegs by shutting off the air supply and pulling the valve until it stopped. Saturday I replaced the kegco regulator with a taprite and replaced the air lines and installed a new three port distributor. I checked for leaks and hooked it up at a little...

    Foamy Pours from New Setup

Thanks for the advice. If it is at a high carb level then can I just shut off the regulator and bleed pressure to bring it down? Will that cause any other issues? For the second possibility, should I just spray with starsan to look for bubbles? I had assumed that since I've not seen any beer...
