    Is a flame regulator necessary?

Hmm makes sense. I'm still curious about the no sparge though. I can see why the bag would make it easy for no stuck sparges but I don't understand why that allows you to do away with sparging all together. Thanks again

    Is a flame regulator necessary?

Thanks so much for the help and the clarification. The thread you posted was very helpful. Two questions came up for me though: 1) The immersion chillers; can bottles of frozen water suffice for a substitute? 2) The no sparge method; why, does it seem, you can get away without doing it...

    Is a flame regulator necessary?

Thank you for the response it was helpful. I should have been more specific: I meant adding cold water when it boils over. I may be wrong here, but in a number of videos, the process of BIAB involves having various water temperatures at different times. For example, having a boil at one...

    Is a flame regulator necessary?

I plan on doing my first BIAB. I do not have a propane/outdoor burner, but I have this faux fire place, and am thinking about building a stand around it. Question: Will it be okay if it does not have a flame adjustment valve? A lot of videos seem to use them, but could I not just add water in...

Did I add yeast too late?

Thanks for your reply! Good to know I am not in danger. The kit was $33, cheaper than brewing with DME and LME, probably not as cheap as all grain though.

Did I add yeast too late?

That is, I am assuming it's a pre-mixed wort. There was no DME/LME

Did I add yeast too late?

Yes it was a pre-mixed wort, which was added to water. I just got the 1.8 gallons of water it called for to mix with it from the tap.

Did I add yeast too late?

Thanks for your reply. Wouldn't the need to cold break the wort only apply to a boiling brew? I am not sure what the wort stuff you get in those kits actually is to be honest, but I assume they have been pre-boiled.

Did I add yeast too late?

Hello, I am making a Brew House Beer Kit (Pale Ale) - so no boiling extracts, just dump everything into a fermenter. I waited 8 hours to add my yeast as it took a while to get to the 23 C mark. Will this be a problem?

Costs of DME and LME at my LHB

Hi thanks for your reply, I wasn't aware that there were different kinds of kits. The kit I bought today is an all extract kit. That is, there are no steeping additions/all grain ingredients. It was $34. It's a pale ale from a company called "The Brew House" Also the pale ale...

What is cheaper? Beer kits or extract brewing?

Because I found that at my LHBS it $7 for 1 kg of LME, and about the same for 500 G of DME. I need at east 2 of each for my recipe, and with hops and all that buying a easy beer kit seems so much cheaper. This seems as a surprise to me though! Is this really how it is?

Costs of DME and LME at my LHB

It seems to me that I may have been mistaken in assuming that brewing with extracts are cheaper than with a kit. Can someone confirm this?

Costs of DME and LME at my LHB

Hello, I visited my LHB today and they were selling 1 KG of pale malt extract (DME) for $7.00, and about the same for DME that was only 500 grams. What's the deal? I'm better off just buying a beer kit eh?

Oxi Clean to water ratio - Did my brewing book go overboard?

Thanks for your reply. Yes I feel the "smart" thing to do is to say what my bottle tells me. But then I can't help but think maybe that's too much, because a lot of the experienced people tell me otherwise (14 ml/5 gallons or 19 liters)

Oxi Clean to water ratio - Did my brewing book go overboard?

Thanks a lot for your reply. I guess I'll just use 1/3 as you suggested to a full "scoop" depending on what mood I am in. With Iodophor however, I get the impression I have to be more accurate. My bottle suggests I use 1ml/liter, so 19 L/5 gallons, or 1.3 tbspoon/5 gallons. However popular...

Why does my Iodopher bottle call for so much?

Hi, I am having difficulty finding the right ratio of water/iodopher. The instructions call for 1 ml of idopher per 1 litre. Is that too much? It doesn't say the ppm.

Oxi Clean to water ratio - Did my brewing book go overboard?

Hi, In "How to Brew" by John Palmer - he suggests using 1 table spoon per gallon of sodium percarbonate (Oxi Clean). Yet after doing a search here on the forum, it seems many of you use 1/8 of a scoop to 1 full scoop of Oxi Clean per 5 gallons. There appears to be no consensus. Should I...

Can my ceramic stove do a 3.5 gallon partial boil?

May I ask how much water you were boiling when your stove chipped?

Can my ceramic stove do a 3.5 gallon partial boil?

I really appreciate you're help. I have some LME that I plan on dropping at knockout. The DME that I a plan on boiling with is 2.5 lbs.

Can my ceramic stove do a 3.5 gallon partial boil?

Would that be a fair test though with just water? From what I understand adding an extract to water may prevent it from boiling. I could be wrong there though.
