Time to dry hop a IIPA?

Put the IIPA in on May 19th, OG was 1.091 Took a theif sample today and FG is 1.013 si I'm happy with that, and it tasted pretty damn good. I was thinking of giving it 8-10 more days to finish cleaning up, giving it a full 30 days. Should I dry hop it now? I was just going to toss 1 oz (5g...

Need some quick tips on my yeast washing process

So I do things a little different than the youtube videos I've seen. I haven't had any "negative" results, but I would like to optimize my yield if possible. I don't do the whole boiling my mason jars ect. 1) I boil about 1.5 gallons of water on the stove for 15 minutes and put the pot in an...

i saw a thin white film on the surface after the first 12 hours, but now it was gone the next day. Are there any sort of visible signs I should be getting from the brett?

Sidepickup AND center pickup tube on keggle?

I have a few kegs laying around and was thinking of making a HLT with a center pickup and a Boil kettle with a side pickup... However, I don't really want to spend the money on two different setups since one has been working for me. The pickups would just make things a little easier, is there a...

    Yeast Starter Cooling Overnight?

In the time it took to post this, I imagine an ice bath would have worked just fine. If I need it colder fast I split mine up into a bunch of small sanatized cups and put them all in the ice bath. I can have a cold batch in 4-8 minutes depending on the size.

Leftover wort from brew as starter

Just wondering if there are any rules of thumb to doing so. I saved about 1/2 a gallon of wort from my NE Brown. I put it in a jug and tossed it in the fridge. I was planning on using it as a starter. If I do so, will it be ok to use it in a lighter beer, assuming I decant the yeast after...

    San Diego Water questions

I'm new to brewing and live in San Diego... For now, I use a Camco filter to run my water through, but wondering if anyone has done any sort of other adjustments. Ballast point says they use their local water and just run it through a carbon filter to remove chlorine. When playing around in...

    NE Brown Ale

I fly sparge with a pvc sparge arm, at 167deg and I let it run for about 35minutes on a 10g batch, with occasional stirring to make sure everything gets washed. I use a bazooka screen, but I'm leaning towards building a false bottom.

    Starting issue

Made a brown ale using WLP002 I washed off of an Irish red. I was able to get 3 Whitelabs Vials worth of what I though looked like yeast out of the wash. I didn't make a starter because it was a last minute brew day decision, but with that much yeast I figured it would be enough. It's been 12...

    NE Brown Ale

This is my first attempt at a NE Brown Ale. Used a few vials of WLP002 English Ale yeast I harvested from my Irish. We've been having some issues with efficiency, no idea why but we are. Instead of coming up short, we just account for the loss and increase the grains needed. Well...

    Help with stalled Saison

Well, I got creative and did some stuff I'll probably get scolded for. I went ahead and split the 10g batch into two seperate carboys. I added some sanitized in simmering water table sugar (just a small handfull) to each carboy. In one, I added some Brett B, in the other just a little bit of...

    Help with stalled Saison

Day 21, still at 1.010. Considering building a small box with my left over ply wood and my insurlation material, and putting a light bulb inside and closing her up. Is it too late to ramp up the heat for effectiveness?
